House Pi by D&P Associates

The House Pi in Vietnam, designed by D&P Associates, represents an interesting residential project inspired by the Pise wall of ethnic groups residing in northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam. The homeowner is a French gentleman who has lived and worked in Vietnam for nearly 30 years and deeply loves Vietnamese traditional art and culture. The house is a perfect blend of modern Western architecture and the traditional beauty of Vietnam.

The house is located on the banks of the Red River, which holds numerous historical and cultural values. To take advantage of its excellent location with a view of the river and Long Bien Bridge, the house was designed with many large transparent glass windows in French modern architecture that fill the home with natural light during the day and fresh air at night.

FVA named this interesting residential project House Pi because the entire house resembles Archimedes' constant Pi in geometry at first glance. The main source of inspiration for creating the house was the Pise wall. The design concept was inspired by the homeowner, a French gentleman who has lived and worked in Vietnam for nearly 30 years. He has deep love and great interest in Vietnamese traditional art and culture. The house is a perfect blend of modern Western architecture and the traditional beauty of Vietnam, as desired by the owner.

The house is inspired by the Trinh Tuong House (Pise wall), a unique architectural identity of ethnic groups such as Mong, Ha Nui, Tai, Dao Tien and others living in northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam (Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Lang Son, Kao Bang etc.). The Pise wall is entirely built by hand through compaction of earth to create a smooth cubic form, without steel framework but very safe and durable. This ancient construction technique creates walls with an attractive appearance in typical red-earth color. Each inch of the wall is hand-painted to give it the Pise color.

Bricks - a similarity between traditional Vietnamese and French architecture are used to create a feeling of warmth and harmony in decorative work. By creating new brick layouts, we gave the interior of the house a modern, elegant and luxurious beauty. The house is located on the banks of the Red River, which holds numerous historical and cultural values. The river has witnessed and contributed to thousands of years of history in the formation and development of the capital: Thang Long - Dung Do - Hanoi.

Using its excellent location with a view of the Red River and Long Bien Bridge, the house was designed with many large transparent glass windows in French modern architecture that fill the home with natural light during the day and fresh air at night. Owners can enjoy an unobstructed view of the Red River surrounded by a cool natural landscape environment. The first floor is designed as a relaxing space for the owner with a pool in front. The first floor is a zone of family activities and hospitality. The second floor is private space for each family member.

Artistic decorations are scattered throughout the rooms of the first floor. Interiors with colorful accents make the space lively and attractive. The space from the first to second floor and magnificent view of the water create a feeling of spaciousness and generosity.
