House on Bowen Island in Canada
Designed by Burgers Architecture, the Bowen Residence is located at the edge of a cliff in British Columbia, Canada. The house sits on a picturesque plot on Bowen Island, northwest of Vancouver. It is presented as two gabled volumes with panoramic glazing offering unobstructed views of the bay.
The construction has a P-shaped form with a total area of 418 square meters. The design is inspired by the image of a fisherman's cabin, with its straight lines and protective facades designed to withstand strong southeast winter winds and the aggressive marine air.
The kitchen and living room with panoramic glazing open to the courtyard for outdoor dining. The center of the house features a dining room and two bedrooms with bathrooms. The entrance hall is located at the opposite end of the building, next to an office and a staircase leading to the basement and art storage. The main bedroom with a bathroom is located on the side of the house.
The residence is adorned with a large collection of modern art by the owner, which creates a striking contrast with the simple decor and natural beauty of the location.
