Bathhouse Over the Waters of Southern Sweden
Admiring the picturesque coastline of southern Sweden, it's easy to understand why the city of Karlshamn has a long-standing tradition of bathing in the sea. For complete harmony, this scenic spot was missing only a bathhouse — a classic symbol of Swedish culture reimagined for the modern age.
The local organization Kallbadhusets Vänner helped bring the first urban bathhouse project to life. With support from sponsors and the municipality, members of the community were able to fulfill their long-held dream of a special place for connecting with the sea all year round. The 200-square-meter bathhouse was designed by White Studio.
The main hall, adjacent to a terrace, is flanked on one side by a women's sauna and on the other by men's. A staircase beside each sauna allows easy access to the water for a refreshing dip or a swim. Wind-protected terraces invite comfortable rest and sunbathing.
The external facades are clad in wooden panels treated with pigment-rich oil, giving the wood a natural patina tone.
