Black and White Apartment by LINES Bureau

For a young family living in Moscow, LINES Bureau designed an interior with a contrast black and white color scheme including a library in the living room. The apartment is divided into four functional zones: bedroom, kitchen with living room, child's room and office. All four zones are united by a common stylistic approach.

The clients love reading, so we decided to fill the apartment with books and create a home library. In accordance with their wishes, black and white bookshelves were installed in the living room wall which became the dominant design element next to an elegant gray sofa.

Originally, the apartment was divided into long, non-functional zones with dark nightstands. One corridor led to four rooms at the same time completely removing functionality. To make the space more convenient, designers created a combined corridor connecting the private area of the apartment with the kitchen-living room.

For the style of the apartment, a modern black and white classical style was chosen. The LINES team used graphic moldings on the walls and equipped the apartment with items containing classical elements. The moldings contributed to a general rhythm of design: they were embedded into the walls in some places and protruded outward in others.

In this interior, one dominant material is light ceramic tile with black specks. It appears everywhere in the apartment: on kitchen-living room walls, bedroom and office.

"In this project, we decided to abandon bright accents and add only a few colorful details in the children's room. The clients fully supported our idea, they were not afraid of sharp color transitions" - shares Ekaterina Usova, project designer.

Another interesting interior element is a combined black cube connecting the corridor with the bright kitchen. On one side, the cube is enhanced with a mirror and console; on the other side, a kitchen cabinet and appliances are built-in. A four-silver shade chandelier above the kitchen island makes an additional accent.

The cubic concept is also implemented in the bedroom. A large glass sliding door wardrobe built in a cube shape was created. The supporting element is a light with multiple small LEDs installed above the bed.

Orange furniture details in the children's room are the only bright element in the apartment. Designers suggested adding spatial motifs to the interior, so an unusual lamp resembling a spaceship appeared on the wall and a mural with the moon along with additional multi-color RGB lighting became the main element of the room.
