Buhari House by Onur Karadeniz Architects
The Buhari House is located in Istanbul and designed as a farmhouse near the city outskirts. The house is named after the client's surname. At the beginning of the project, there were two separate old houses on the site. The two-story house will be used as the main building, while the other one is intended to serve as a guesthouse that will be designed later. The roof and second floor of the existing two-story house were completely demolished, and a new addition is built right next to it. A new steel roof was designed that integrates the two buildings (the existing building is made of stone, and the new addition is concrete).

The house is located on a slope and connects the lower levels with the upper ones. Thus, the new addition was designed to be on the lower level, which is intended as primary living space and two bedrooms on this level used as boys' rooms with a concrete ceiling in brutalist style covered with glass lacquer paint.
A 12-meter terrace was designed to sit and define the main gable, creating a boundary. This terrace serves as an overview platform for monitoring farm lands and highlights the main entrance of the building with a projecting door from outside.
The house is located at the top of the plot and three new concrete lifts were designed to connect spaces on the site. The first lift is positioned on the left, providing a linear path between the entrance and the main inner courtyard, while the other two lifts are on the right side and intended for pedestrian and freight movement to farm lands. The pedestrian lift provides a direct path to the lower level, while the freight lift curves upward and connects with farm lands. Additionally, a series of terraced gardens with stone walls were designed on the left side of the plot.
The house is distinguished by its variety of materials used, such as granite, concrete, brick, rusted Corten metal, steel, wood, oak, aluminum and glass.
