Bumerang House by Joe Adsetts Architects: Curved Modern Comfort in Escott
Modern House Formed by Curves
The Bumerang House by Joe Adsetts Architects is a remarkable home in Escott that blurs the boundaries between interior and nature. Designed around gentle curves and sculptural elements, this house offers private comfort among nature.
Instead of rigid geometry, the architecture uses soft rounded edges to soften linear forms. Light and solid materials interact, creating visual balance, while spacious openings connect living areas directly to outdoor landscape zones.
Entrance Defined by Sculpture and Light
The approach to the house is defined by a sculptural spiral staircase, a central element that swiftly rises through the double-height entrance space. Above it, a round skylight lets sunlight down, highlighting the recurring geometry of curves throughout the house.
This entrance path sets the tone for the home: a blend of light, form and spatial drama, guiding residents to more intimate living areas.
Living Spaces and Private Retreats
The house is organized across several wings:
Upper Level: The southern wing contains three bedrooms, a family bathroom and a living room, while the western wing is designed as a cozy parents' retreat, ensuring privacy and comfort.
Lower Level: Spacious living areas seamlessly connect with outdoor landscape zones, combining the dining room, lounge and kitchen into an open, flowing layout.
Hidden Amenities: A four-car garage and wine cellar are hidden beneath the main living level, optimizing above-ground space for family life and parties.
Architecture Based on Connections
The Bumerang House design focuses on connections—between spaces, forms and architecture with the landscape. Curved facades embrace the garden, and transitions between interior and exterior are smooth and natural.
Through cultivated material selection—combining solid masonry with light finishes—the house achieves a sense of lightness and freedom, despite its imposing scale. It serves not only as luxurious housing but also as a peaceful personal sanctuary, framing its inhabitants within its curved walls.
The Bumerang House demonstrates Joe Adsetts Architects’ mastery in contemporary Australian residential design, where sculptural form harmonizes with functional family living. With its curves, light-filled staircase corridors, hidden amenities and integration with nature, the project embodies a modern architectural refuge fitting the Escott context.
