Jennifer Aniston Back on Air, and 'The Office' Returns: 5 Shows That Will Blow Away September
Take note!
September has always been a month of big premieres — summer holidays are over, viewers return to the screens, and producers roll out their best projects. And this year is no exception: we are expecting long-awaited sequels to cult series, unexpected spin-offs, and completely new stories from proven creators.
Main highlights of the article:
- "The Newspaper," a spin-off of the cult "The Office" with Donald Glover, brings back the mockumentary atmosphere (September 4);
- Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short return in season five of "Murder at the Home" (September 9);
- "The Black Rabbit," starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law — a new Netflix thriller (September 18);
- "The Morning Show," starring Jennifer Aniston, continues with its fourth season (September 17);
- HBO launches a mini-series "The Assignment" with elements of action (September 7).
Documentarians leave the office for a newspaper
On September 4, "The Newspaper" premieres on Peacock — an event for all fans of "The Office." Greg Daniels, creator of the American version of the cult series, decided to return to the roots of mockumentary but this time the characters work not in an office, but in a dying newsroom.
The same filming crew that for years captured the madness of Dunder Mifflin company now heads to the Midwest. Their new focus is The Truth Teller newspaper, where Ned Sampson, played by Donald Glover, desperately tries to save the print publication.
The project has already been renewed for a second season — and that was announced just one day before the premiere of the first. Oscar, played by Oscar Nunez, even makes a return, creating a direct link between the universes. Sabrina Impacciatore from "White Lotus" plays Editor-in-Chief Esmeralda, who turned once respected publication into a clickbait factory.
All ten episodes drop simultaneously — the perfect option for those used to binge-watching formats.

On September 9, Hulu presents season five of "Murder at the Home," and fans already know — this will be another masterpiece of detective comedy. Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short return in their roles as the most charming amateur detectives of modern television.
Two elderly but energetic residents of the trendy New York apartment complex "Arconia" and a sarcastic thirty-year-old named Mabel once again encounter a mysterious murder right at the doorstep. And of course, they launch a new season of their true crime podcast.
The show has received impressive ratings: from 7.6 to 8.1 points on different platforms, 96% "freshness" from critics at Rotten Tomatoes and 90% positive reviews from viewers. The new season features Renee Zellweger — which is already intriguing in itself.
Creators promise to maintain the unique balance of irony and tension that made the series cult. Will there be cleverly twisted plots and lots of sharp irony, which characters use to mask deep emotions?
Media machine from the inside
On September 17, Apple TV+ releases season four of "The Morning Show" — a project that became an eye-opener about how television kitchens work. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon return in the roles of hosts trying to survive in a world of post-truth and corporate intrigue.
The events of season four unfold two years after the merger of UBA and NBN channels. The Newsroom must handle new responsibilities, hidden motives, and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America. In a world full of fake news, conspiracy theories, and corporate cover-ups — who can be trusted?
The main cast has been joined by real stars: Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Gretchen Lee, and John Hamm. Ten new episodes will be released weekly until November 19.
The project is based on the journalist Brian Stelter's book "The Top of Morning": Inside the Ruthless World of Morning Television," and has gained special relevance after all the media scandals in recent years.

On September 18, Netflix launches a mini-series "The Black Rabbit" — one of the most anticipated projects of the month. Jason Bateman and Jude Law play brothers whose meeting could destroy everything they have built.
Jake Fridkin (Bateman) — owner of a prestigious restaurant "The Black Rabbit" in New York, a man with impeccable reputation and meticulously constructed life. But everything falls apart when his brother Vince (Law) returns — restless, unpredictable and possibly dangerous.
Their meeting triggers a chain of events where the past resurfaces, and trust becomes a luxury. The atmosphere promises to be cold and tense with neon loneliness shades characteristic of the best New York thrillers.
The project is already called one of the most stylish mini-series of the year, where psychological tension matters more than action.
HBO takes on criminal stories
On September 7, HBO launches a mini-series "The Assignment" — a project expected to become one of the most intense thrillers of the year. A detective assembles a special team to stop a series of brutal raids led by an outwardly harmless family man.
The story is built on classic crime genre conventions but with a modern approach to character psychology. Each team member has their own motives and skeletons in the closet, and the main villain turns out to be not what he seems at first glance.
HBO has been focusing on quality mini-series in recent years, and "The Assignment" should continue this tradition.

On September 1, Premier and START present the school comedy mockumentary "Oldschool" with Maria Aronova. An unexpected combination — a theater and film star in the role of a school teacher in a pseudo-documentary format. Such experiments often perform best.
On September 11, the second season of "The Liars" launches on Okko and START — a continuation of the harsh Far Eastern drama about OPGs from 90s by Yuri Bykov. In season two, viewers will meet the heroes of Egor Kengshametov, Artem Bystrov, and Anna Zavtur again. The director himself appears in the role of a bandit called Arnold.
Additional premieres
On September 17, Prime Video launches season two of "Generation V" — a continuation of the spin-off "Boys." Events unfold right after the finale of season four of the main series. The Godolkin University transforms into a battlefield where young supers survive as outcasts. The premiere starts with three episodes.
On September 25, Netflix presents "The Guinness House" — a biographical drama about Victorian Dublin. The death of the beer magnate leaves his children not only a legendary empire but also a web of family secrets. The project promises to reveal lesser-known pages of the history of this famous dynasty.
On September 15, Hulu launches a new season of "Futurama" — an animated series that stubbornly refuses to die. The trailer promises a parody of "Pacific Rim," bear apocalypse, and signature jokes about the future becoming more real.
September will definitely be a month of quality content. From spin-offs of cult franchises to completely new stories — there is something for everyone. The key is to properly distribute time among all these premieres.
