How We Designed the Kitchen in the Style of Old Moscow Interiors
Modern classic continues the story of the house
The kitchen always occupies a special place in interior design: it is not only a place for cooking but also an important part of the atmosphere. In this project, designer Antonina Belinskaya set herself the task of creating a space where the kitchen would be as functional as possible, but would not become the main focus.
As a result, the kitchen seamlessly fits into the composition of the apartment and continues the mood of old Moscow architecture.
Design: Antonina BelinskayaThe idea of an 'invisible kitchen' lies at the heart of this project. The lower cabinets are clad in veneer and are perceived more as furniture from the living room, while the upper facades are painted in wall color and literally dissolve into space. The layout allows hiding the work area, creating a unified interior.
Additionally, a graphic element is placed on the wall that draws attention away from the stove and sink, turning the kitchen into an extension of the living room.
Design: Antonina BelinskayaThe materials were chosen to support the historical spirit of the apartment. Sills and worktops are made from concrete and microcement, while the floor is made of solid wood planks. The mosaic tiles in the entrance hall and bathroom echo the era of the house, connecting all rooms into one whole.
Design: Antonina BelinskayaLighting and moldings became important decorative elements. The cornice in the living room is painted to match the wall color, visually increasing ceiling height, while pendant lights make the kitchen cozier. Dark walls create a sense of intimacy, while furniture and textiles add tactile warmth.
Design: Antonina BelinskayaAs a result, we achieved a kitchen that fits perfectly into the concept. It fulfills all functions without drawing unnecessary attention.
