Functional solutions that don't require reconfiguration or expensive furniture

The smaller the area, the more important it is to plan storage carefully. Especially when talking about a trash space: there must be comfort for one person and an entire family. In this project, designer Tatiana Petrova solved the problem comprehensively, without built-in wardrobes or bulky modules. Storage is distributed throughout all rooms, and some ideas can even be implemented without major renovation.

We've collected 5 practical and unoriginal tips that are easy to replicate even in a standard apartment.

Integrate the Boiler, Meter, and Washing Machine into Kitchen Cabinets

The kitchen was designed so that all engineering utilities are hidden—from the gas boiler to the meter. Even the washing machine is installed under the countertop to avoid cluttering the bathroom. Visually, it appears as a normal cabinet, but in reality, it replaces several storage zones and technical niches.

Use the Balcony as a Wardrobe and Vanity Table

A part of the balcony adjacent to the bedroom was glazed and turned into a full-fledged wardrobe zone. Here, wardrobes and a vanity table fit in without compromising the room’s lighting. The balcony was separated with foldable partitions that can be easily shifted if needed.

Create a Universal Closet in the Foyer

A spacious closet from floor to ceiling appeared in the foyer, looking like a wall part thanks to light-colored fronts. Inside, there's storage for outerwear, shoes, and household items. The height of the structure accommodates seasonal clothing and suitcases as well.

Use Modular Furniture

All wardrobes, dressers, and sideboards in the apartment are from IKEA's modular series. Due to recurring forms and colors, they create a sense of unified space, and if needed, they can be rearranged or replaced. This is especially convenient if the apartment is rented—tenants can adapt the furniture to their needs.

Pay Attention to the Video: Add Open Shelves and Bookcases

In every room, there's additional storage in the form of lightweight shelves: in the bedroom— for decor and books, in the bathroom—for towels and cosmetics, in the foyer—for bags and small items.
