Before and After: Budget Transformation of a 32 m² Studio in a Khrushchyovka Without a Designer
Just 400 thousand rubles — and it's ready!
This apartment is located in a Moscow Khrushchyovka built in 1964. The building is part of the housing renovation program. Real estate agent Roman Mynzheraru bought the apartment for rental purposes. The main goal was to carry out a budget-friendly renovation and create a cozy interior for comfortable living. Almost all the renovation work was done by Roman himself, with help from friends and acquaintances in some cases.
Room tour (17 minutes)

Apartment Before Renovation
This is a full one-room apartment with a balcony. At the time of purchase, it was in very poor condition and needed major updating — capital repair was required, the design, furniture, and functionality had to be planned. The layout remained unchanged. The apartment includes a kitchen, hallway, bedroom-living room, and a combined bathroom.
For wall finishing, wallpapers were chosen. The floor was covered with budget laminate laid as a single contour that combines practicality and aesthetics. The ceiling was simply whitewashed, windows were replaced, and radiators were painted white — a very budget-friendly and harmonious solution that fits into the overall design.

About the Kitchen
The kitchen area is 5.4 square meters. Despite its compact size, all necessary appliances were placed and plenty of storage space was organized. A standard-size kitchen cabinet became a good solution: its cost including installation and delivery came to 103 thousand rubles.
In the dining area, the lower part of the wall is decorated with decorative panels that protect the wallpaper from damage and keep the interior fresh. A sliding table and compact plastic chairs ensure maximum functionality and comfort.

About the Bedroom-Living Room
The room has two large windows that provide plenty of light and a balcony. Near the windows, a comfortable double bed on legs was placed — this model was chosen deliberately so that a robot vacuum cleaner could pass underneath. Next to the bed, a small table was placed along with a double-door cabinet and a children's corner. In the living area, there is a folding sofa and an entertainment center bought on Avito, completed with thin legs.
All the furniture was budget-friendly: the bed cost 17,000 rubles, the cabinet — 9,000 rubles, the sofa about 40,000 rubles, and the TV was obtained from Roman's clients for just 5,000 rubles.

After the renovation, the apartment looked a bit dull. To transform it, I invited homestagers. They added textiles, cozy cushions and decor that made the space more comfortable.

The wall in the hallway was decorated as an accent, adorned with wooden strips and painted a bright yellow. This adds liveliness and energy to the space. The finishing touch was an oval mirror with a stylish black frame — it visually expands the room and adds sophistication to the interior.

About the Entrance
The walls in the entrance are covered with wallpaper and painted in a sandy color that creates a cozy atmosphere. Wooden strips were used for decoration, giving the interior texture and style. Only essential items are placed in the entrance: hooks for clothes, a small shoe cabinet, a mirror, and a soft pouf for comfortable shoe removal. Near the room is a refrigerator.

About the Bathroom
The bathroom area is only 3 square meters. The old finish and plumbing were completely replaced. For wall finishing, white tiles with black grout were chosen in the shower area. Under the new sink, a washing machine was placed to solve the lack of space issue.
Shelves for gels and shampoos added functionality and visual accent. An important addition was a foldable wall-mounted towel rack, convenient for towels and clothes. The new mirror with lighting creates soft illumination and visually expands the space, while a stylish curtain complements the overall design.
