How We Designed a Cozy Hallway in an 18th Century Mansion
Interior that inspires change
This apartment, located in the historic center of Yaroslavl, represents a unique example of harmonious blend between history and modern design. In this former mansion with a 200-year history, designer Valeria Dolgikh created a cozy interior perfectly suited for a large and friendly family. Let's see what the hallway looks like.

Architectural features of the entrance area — three multi-level door openings and two steps — became the basis for interesting design solutions. To adjust proportions, the project author used false frames and moldings that visually elongated the door openings. This allowed preserving the elegance of historical architecture without losing modern style. A window frame with glazing was made for the kitchen door — it adds grandeur to the interior.

The walls are covered with black wallpapers featuring an Art Deco pattern. The dark color envelops the space, making it cozy and intimate. Transitioning from a dark corridor to bright rooms creates a 'wow effect' and sets a unique mood and emotional background that prepares for warm communication and comfort.

The 'messy' zone is separated by a step and black-and-white tiled flooring — this avoids unwanted passages through the space, making the hallway feel like a completely different room. A built-in wine-toned cabinet located right at the entrance is perfect for storing coats and shoes, maintaining order and coziness.

The interior of this hallway skillfully combines modern conveniences with elements from the past. Practical architectural solutions and thoughtfully detailed features create a comfortable space with that 'wow effect' which immediately sets the right mood and emotions.
