Kitchens with Islands: 5 Great Examples from Designers' Projects
A portion of inspiration and interesting ideas worth noting
A kitchen island is a standalone working module on the kitchen. It can serve various functions, acting as an additional work surface, storage space, or dining table. We've collected five stylish kitchen interiors with islands that serve as the heart of their respective spaces.
Island in a Country Kitchen
In this spacious kitchen, the island is placed right in the center, aligned with the axis between two walkways. The sink is located on the island, and the cooking area with the stove is placed to the right under the window. This setup successfully created a convenient dining zone and increased the kitchen's working surface.

This kitchen is located in a country house of a well-known singer and songwriter Lina Katina. The island was an essential element for her — the family gathers around it for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. It also serves as a convenient work surface and additional storage: several pull-out drawers are built into the island from the kitchen side. The natural marble countertop looks very elegantly and nobly.

To realize the clients' dream of a kitchen island, the layout in this small apartment was changed. The kitchen was joined with the living room, and instead of a full dining table, the designer chose a compact kitchen island with a slab countertop. Storage is organized in it from the kitchen side, while from the living room side, the countertop continues to form a bar dining table.

In this project, the island performs four functions at once: zoning the kitchen and living room, serving as an additional storage system, acting as a dining table, and providing a convenient work surface. But the main feature of the island is that it houses a television on the living room side. This solution allowed saving valuable square meters and creating an original accent.

The owner of this country house also dreamed of having an island in the kitchen. The designers came up with a furniture arrangement based on this wish. Thanks to the two-sided fill of the island, it became the heart of the kitchen. It serves as a convenient work surface, a built-in oven, and a stove. On one side of the island are drawers for storing kitchen utensils, while on the other side — storage for serving dishes.
