How to Fit a Tropical Shower, Washing Machine, and Unusual Sink in Just 3 Square Meters
Creative ideas based on a small bathroom
A tiny bathroom was expanded to 3 square meters. There wasn't enough space for a jacuzzi and a full-sized bathtub, but everything necessary was fitted. To visually expand the space, designer Marina Pahomova used optical illusions.
1. Optical TechniquesTransitional windows were installed under the ceiling. Natural light enters through them.

The bathroom door is made of ribbed glass. This allows natural light to enter while maintaining opacity. One drawback of the door is the lack of a threshold, which means it doesn't provide full sound insulation. The door frame is made from metal profile. This makes the door heavy. The door closer prevents it from slamming shut.

Opposite the sink is a large mirror — the only place in the apartment where one can see oneself full-length. The mirror visually expands the space by doubling everything reflected in it.
2. Appliances and StorageNext to the entrance, a washing machine was installed, which also functions as a dryer. This way, a fresh set of clothes can be ready in just three hours. There is a collapsible laundry rack on the washing machine.

Next to the machine is a storage cabinet for clothes and towels. The lower compartment has a built-in laundry basket for dirty clothes. It doesn't take up extra space and is very convenient to use.

A hairdryer and cosmetic mirror are mounted on the wall near the sink. This arrangement saves space.

3. SinkIn this tiny bathroom, everything is placed close together. Therefore, a sink with a deep basin was chosen so that the cabinet underneath could be low and comfortable to use next to the toilet.
4. Tropical ShowerThe highlight of this tiny bathroom is a tropical shower. There wasn’t enough space for an additional partition. The shower drain is installed in the floor, and there is no threshold, but a slight incline was created so that water flows directly into the drain. Towel hooks are located near the shower, and the look of the tropical shower is completed with plants.

To accommodate a plant wall, Marina used a vertical surface. The bathroom has a suitable microclimate for plants — humid and warm. An automatic watering system is provided. A mirror is placed opposite the transitional windows — another optical illusion that visually expands the space and increases the amount of sunlight for plants.
