Compact apartment in the heart of Stockholm

Most people are accustomed to the idea that transforming housing can only be achieved through meticulous and expensive renovations. However, every rule has its exceptions. For example, a single-room apartment from the prehistoric era can outperform any new construction flat.

Want to see how this is possible? Read on.

Layout as is

A compact apartment of 35 m² is located not just anywhere, but right in the heart of Stockholm. Therefore, it contains many elements typical of the 19th century: wide double-hung windows on metal pivots, wooden sideboard, and vintage decor.

The original layout has not undergone any changes — the living room remains just as spacious, the kitchen with a niche stands separately, and the bedroom is quite small in size. Everything is where it belongs.

Color palette

The main temporal accent in this apartment is the blue-toned finish of windows, doors, and furniture. Since the rich and deep color is evenly distributed throughout the space, the room appears fresh and new.

The living room is bathed in an ascetic white tone. In contrast to it and as a recurring blue motif, plants, floor, and furniture stand out. Paintings are hung on track rails, which allows easy movement in space using nylon threads.

Kitchen

Although the kitchen itself is rather cramped, it appears larger due to a large window admitting natural light. An antique sideboard made of oak was painted blue and fitted with metal handles, making it look like a modern element in the interior.

The backsplash and countertop are made of tile and metal respectively, reflecting light and further illuminating the kitchen.

The seating area is located in the window niche, and the dining table is in the living room.

Bedroom

The bedroom contains only one bed, with no bright accents. According to designers, they would interfere with sleep and fail to create the appropriate mood.

Bathroom

The bathroom also lacks extravagance. The only exception is that a glass shower screen was installed instead of a curtain, visually expanding the small space.

Storage

The wardrobe is built into the hallway — a large mirrored closet was placed there for storing the main clothing items.
