7 Variants of Partitions for Zoning Space in a Room
Useful ideas worth adopting
There are many reasons why you might want to divide a room: one person may not have enough private space for sleeping in a studio apartment, others want to set up a convenient workspace in the living room. When there is a need for zoning, partitions come to the rescue.
Partitions are a convenient and simple tool that makes it easy to divide a space without using bulky structures. They look aesthetically pleasing, are practical to install, and harmoniously blend into the room's design.
Already planning a space transformation? We've gathered seven variants of partitions that can help you: get inspired and take note.
Partitions from Gypsum Board
Gypsum board partitions are one of the most popular options for room zoning. You can hide wiring behind gypsum boards, they are easy to install and are very affordable. The downsides include low moisture resistance and fragility.
Design: Olesya ShlyakhtinaIn one of our heroes' projects, an architect cleverly divided the space using partitions made from foam blocks and gypsum board. The kitchen-living room was separated from the hallway by a partition that was decorated as a shelf on the kitchen side: a bit of creativity and the partition turned into a buffet with additional storage space.
You can adopt this idea or design a shelf-partition in the bedroom, separating a workspace or a sleeping area.

Thanks to sliding partitions, you can separate the kitchen from the dining room or living room, create a relaxation area in the bedroom or a play zone in the children's room. Sliding partitions are a functional and practical solution that saves space.
To make the partition look more interesting, you can paint it in a vibrant color and use it as an accent in the interior design.
Design: OM-Design Another example is a studio where it was hard to find space for a bedroom. The designer decided to decorate it in a niche, and the privacy of the space was provided by the sliding partition.

If you don't want to create visible, large barriers, opt for stylish glass partitions. For example, designer Olga Artemova divided a spacious room into two parts — the bedroom and the living room.
The transparency of the partition allowed the living room to remain bright and spacious, while the bedroom became a secluded area. Glass partitions will allow you to turn a one-room apartment into a two-room flat — real magic without harming the interior.

Wooden panel partitions are a modern, eco-friendly, and relevant solution for room zoning. Be sure to consider wooden beam partitions — they don't weigh down the space and add warmth to it.

Unlike stationary partitions, mobile partitions leave room for future transformation of the space. Have you decided that the children's room should become a unified space again? Simply remove the partition. This is a convenient option for both spacious and small rooms. Let's look at the most popular mobile partitions.
Shelving Unit
If you want to zone a room, it's not necessary to buy a tall shelving unit up to the ceiling. Low models also handle the task of separation but don't restrict the space's freedom. If there is only one window in the room, you can use a semi-transparent shelving unit with backlighting — it will serve as an additional light source.
Design: Prosvirin Design There is a wide variety of shelving units on the market — metal, wooden, low, tall, black-and-white or colorful. You just need to choose a model that will become a harmonious addition to the interior.
Design: Julia TelnovaCurtain
A curtain is an interesting approach that not only helps save space and define zones but also creates a unique atmosphere. One of the main advantages of curtains is that they are an affordable and budget-friendly option that is easy to install by yourself. You only need the curtains and a track. Curtains are often used to separate the sleeping area (they are hung in front of the bed or around it), and you can also set up a play zone in the children's room. This is an excellent solution for small apartments.

A room divider is another simple but very useful ally in zoning the space. It can be small and indicate a conditional division of space, which is quite enough to organize a private corner. For example, in this project, the designer used a small carved divider to separate the bedroom and living room.
Design: Oksana TsimbalovaYou can take this idea to note: a beautiful divider not only performs its main function but also adds elegance and aesthetics to the interior.
