5 mistakes in DIY renovation. What you shouldn't do in a multi-apartment building
Examining errors on a real example
Art historian and blogger Tatyana Timofeeva, along with her husband Alexander, decorated their apartment themselves. The result was a bright and interesting interior, but with several mistakes that now make the owner regret. Today we'll tell you how to avoid them. Learn from others' mistakes so your renovation can be perfect!
1. Sound insulation
One of the most common mistakes in multi-apartment buildings is the absence of sound insulation. Our heroes refused it based on advice from their workers: in their opinion, sound insulation takes up space and is an unnecessary expense. As a result, the apartment in a business-class residential complex has sound transmission similar to that of a Khrushchyovka flat.

2. White sink made of artificial granite
Artificial granite requires special attention. If the owner isn't prepared to thoroughly clean stains daily, it's better to avoid such a sink. Because beautiful white matte, but porous material easily absorbs dirt. An alternative solution would be a ceramic sink.

3. Engineering board
Tatyana shares her negative experience using an engineering board from a domestic manufacturer Finex. They bought the material at a good discount, but the producer delayed delivery. This disrupted the entire schedule for renovation work. The biggest surprise was the very mediocre quality of the floor: chips and cracks appeared within the first few months of use. The floor constantly requires spot restoration and cannot withstand loads such as a small child or a miniature pomeranian in the house.

4. Contrast switches
White contrast switches on a dark green wall in the bedroom were placed above the level of the bedside table. Tatyana now regrets this decision. They stand out strongly on the wall, and wires constantly stick out of the sockets, creating visual noise in the interior. Ideally, switches should have been made to match the wall color or wood tone. The socket itself should be hidden behind the bedside table.

5. Water heater
Periods of hot water shutdown in multi-apartment buildings are short but regular. And it seems like there's nothing difficult about heating a pot of water and taking a shower. But when a small child joins the family, the inconvenience from the lack of a water heater becomes noticeable. Heating several pots of water just to get ready in the morning, for example, with a family of four people — that's a huge waste of time.
