How to Properly Choose Curtain Material, Color, and Size for Interior

This page is also available in the following languages:🇷🇺🇺🇦🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸🇵🇱🇨🇳
Short version of the key points
We share useful tips on how to correctly choose curtains for interior design without ruining the space. We pay attention to material, color, and proportions.

Fabric
When choosing curtain material, it is important to determine the type of room, sun exposure, and understand the desired effect.
For greater practicality, we recommend purchasing curtains made of dense cotton and velvet for sunny rooms. These fabrics are most resistant to fading.
For the shaded side, you can confidently choose lighter materials such as organza, voile, viscose, or silk.

Color
The choice of color depends on the size of the room. The optimal option is warm and light tones that visually expand the room and suit any interior style.
If you want color, add it in the form of bright curtains and textiles. Dark tones are better used in spacious rooms because they visually 'consume' space.

Size
The size of the curtains depends on the desired effect in the room. If you want to visually raise the ceiling, hang the curtains above the window edge. If you mount the rod at the same level as the window, you make the ceiling appear lower.
It is very easy to hide pipes and radiators with curtains — mount the rod across the full width of the wall.

Roof
Wooden rods can easily be matched to the color of the interior from finish to furniture. Aluminum rods can easily be shaped into the desired form.
Plastic rods differ in a wide variety of finishes, but they are only suitable for lightweight fabrics.

Room Type
Kitchen
Curtains in the kitchen are not just a decorative element; they must be functional, practical, and easy to maintain.
These criteria are fully met by Roman or roll curtains, which are easily adjustable in height.

Living Room
A universal option for a living room is a classic solid-color panel made of lightweight fabric.
If you find it too simple, drape it with pleats or add tassel and lamination.

Bedroom
For comfortable sleep, choose blackout curtains, lined panels, or single-layer dense drapes made of velvet, muslin, or voile.
Soft, muted tones that set the mood for rest and relaxation are preferred.

Child's Room
The window decor in a child's room should primarily be eco-friendly. We recommend paying attention to natural materials that collect less dust and do not cause allergies.
Patterns and prints are suitable for babies' rooms. Bright colors, on the other hand, perfectly complement a teenager's room.
