We explain what to pay attention to before buying an apartment and how to adapt the developer's finish to your personal taste

We asked interior designer Olga Kashpurava to share the simplest and most affordable ways to add individuality to an interior with developer-provided finishes.

Olga Kashpurava is an interior designer. Her passion is creating functional, beautiful, and cozy homes.

When buying an apartment with developer-provided finishing, you get a standard renovation. Usually, this includes laminate, tiles, paintable wallpapers, drop ceilings, and basic doors. But what to do if your soul craves comfort and individuality, your eyes dream of aesthetics, and your mind wants to save money? It's hard to choose between 'want' and 'can'.

First advice for those who want to buy an apartment with developer-provided renovation: pay attention not only to the layout but also to the finishing. It's much easier to adapt neutral finishing to your taste than, for example, a room with flower-patterned wallpaper and green marble tiles. Painting wallpapers

Many developers use paintable wallpapers, so changing the color scheme is very simple. Usually, such walls can be painted 6–7 times. In one tone, in various shades, in patterns, or left white — there are many options.

Stickers can be applied to painted wallpapers. Create an imitation of patterned wallpaper or a whole composition — a wall hanging. You can make an accent wall by removing the paintable wallpaper and replacing it with other wallpapers or materials, for example, create a brick effect.

Usually, in apartments with developer-provided finishing, the ceilings are drop ceilings. This is an excellent solution for those who are time- and budget-constrained.

A ceiling with trim will look more aesthetically pleasing, giving the room a finished appearance. A matte white coating looks like paint. It's simple and inexpensive to do.

Plastic trim makes the interior look visually less expensive and is quite fragile. It's better to replace it with a trim made of duroplastic: it's durable, water-resistant, and can be painted.

It’s not necessary to install it near wardrobes or the kitchen. The transition can be made to the edge of furniture, which will save a little money.

This is an excellent way to change the interior. There's no need to fear that the paint will peel off. According to practice, such a coating is quite durable and long-lasting.

Paint and stencils are sold in construction stores. If you want individuality, you can order custom stencils.
