How designers arranged modern sleeping rooms in buildings of the previous century using rearrangement and renovation

In this guide, we've collected design projects featuring beautiful and comfortable bedrooms in Stalin-era apartments. Take a look at how designers solved the space organization challenge and what techniques they used to create a modern, comfortable interior.

Rearrangement with two walk-in closets

The task of designer Natalia Solo was to arrange separate rooms for two children and an isolated bedroom for the parents. For this purpose, a rearrangement was required. As a result, the designer preserved the number of rooms: there were a bedroom, two children's rooms, and a living room. The passage corridor was transformed into two walk-in closets.

Bedroom combined with living room

The clients wanted to achieve a functional Scandinavian interior with a large number of storage spaces. At the same time, they fully dedicated one room to the children's space and wanted to combine the bedroom and living room with a fireplace in another.

Designer Marina Merenkova divided the living room into two parts using a glass partition, and the space near the window was redesigned as a bedroom. For storage systems, large built-in wardrobes were provided in the corridor, a small wardrobe, and a dresser in the bedroom.

Bedroom with a personal office and library

Designer Natalia Merdina needed to place a desk for two residents in the bedroom. For this purpose, the relaxation area was separated from the work zone using a glass partition. The designer decorated the interior in warm beige, milk, and vanilla tones, as the apartment owner is from sunny Greece.

The clients have a very large library, so some books were placed in the bedroom's work zone, and the rest will be stored in bookshelves in another room.

Bedroom in the form of a cube on a podium

In this apartment, a rearrangement was also made: all internal partitions were removed and the bathroom was merged with the toilet. The sleeping area was placed in a cube on a podium. On one side, the cube harmoniously integrates into the interior, while on the other side, this zone can be isolated and made private using glass partitions.

Bedroom with a spacious walk-in closet

Designer Natalia Prokhorovskaya transformed an apartment with a standard layout into a spacious studio with a combined kitchen-living room and a separate bedroom. The main storage system is represented by a walk-in closet in the bedroom, which was designed using dense textile.

Neutral gray tones were chosen for the walls and softened with blue, gold, and muted pink accents in furniture and decor. As a result, the bedroom decoration turned out very soft, in a powder tone palette.

Bedroom with a desk by the window

After rearrangement in the apartment, there appeared a large kitchen, a passage living room for guests, and a private bedroom accessible from the living room area. The walls were decorated with handwoven silk wallpapers by De Gournay, and all ceiling perimeters were decorated with plaster cornices.

As requested by the owner, a workspace was provided by the window in the bedroom with bookshelves for books, office equipment, and also perfumes. The lower wardrobes were used to hide printing equipment, while the upper ones behind doors contained file folders. The bedroom also included a full-sized walk-in closet.

Atmosphere of a country house in an apartment

The client requested to decorate the interior in such a way that one wouldn't want to leave it and recreate the atmosphere of a country house with lots of space and light. In one of the rooms, designers made a wooden ceiling like in old Russian houses, and for wall decoration in the bedroom, they used planks from an old barn. Most of the wooden elements were made by local carpenters. For storage, spacious built-in wardrobes were provided in the bedroom.
