We dispel the myth that fireplaces can only be installed in large apartments. Together with an expert, we explain why you won't have to pay extra for electricity

Everyone loves fireplaces, but not everyone knows that they can be installed in any apartment — even a small one. We asked an expert from Electrolux to explain how to choose a fireplace correctly. And we learned why you don't need to worry about your safety or electricity bills.

What to pay attention to when choosing?
The most important things are dimensions and functionality. For small spaces, compact thin models that mount on the wall are ideal — they don't take up much space. For larger apartments or country homes, portal fireplaces with stone framing are perfect.

Naturally, the appearance of a fireplace is not the only thing that matters. Its power is also crucial. To make a decision, keep in mind this formula: a device with 900–1800 W of power can heat a room up to 23 square meters, while devices with 1000–2000 W of power can heat up to 25 square meters.

What other features can they have besides heating?
Modern fireplaces can do more than just heat: for a full immersion into a country atmosphere, they feature flame simulation and crackling wood sound.

These features are included in all Electrolux electric fireplaces: you can turn off the heating and enjoy a beautiful flame image, imagining yourself in a cozy little cabin deep in the forest. You can also adjust the brightness of the flame for a more intimate setting.

Is it safe? How much energy does it consume?
Yes! Fireplaces use modern needle electrode technology, ensuring fast and safe heating. The front panel is made of impact-resistant glass, so even if it falls, no one gets hurt. All you need to do for your safety is keep the fireplace clean, and it will last a long time.

You also don't need to worry that your electricity bills will skyrocket. Modern fireplaces with power from 900 to 2000 W can operate in two modes. If you use the minimum mode, you can save electricity. If you only keep the flame mode on and turn off heating, energy consumption will drop to 6–10 W.

Where to install a fireplace and how to do it?
A fireplace can be easily installed in any room where appliances with 220 V power supply are used. The only exceptions are rooms with high humidity, such as a bathroom or pool area.

Otherwise, consider the layout and placement of furniture: the front part of the fireplace heats up, so don't place it near other items or on carpets with long pile.

Also consider ceiling height: wall-mounted fireplaces should be mounted at least 60 cm from the bottom edge of the unit to the floor. It’s better to leave at least 100 cm between the unit and the ceiling or any object above it.

Anyone can install a portal fireplace — you don't need special skills. All you need is an instruction manual and a standard set of tools that every household has.

For example, wall-mounted fireplaces can easily be hung on brackets — they usually come in the package. You just need to make holes in the wall. If you're unsure of your abilities, you can always call a professional.

How to choose a portal?
First, determine the size of the hearth based on room area and ceiling height, and only then select appropriate framing.

Consider the color palette and style of your interior, as well as the materials you like. For example, Electrolux hearths can be beautifully framed with any decorative portal made of MDF with natural veneer, enamel, stone, or eco-leather finishes.
