Secrets of Professionals: Where to Spend Money to Make a Renovation Look Expensive
Checklist of items that ensure an interior will never be called 'simple'
A renovation that looks expensive and a renovation that costs a lot are sometimes completely different things. Let's explore together with designers what details you should pay attention to so you don't overdo the 'luxury' and get a harmonious and impactful interior.
Flooring
The floor is often the foundation of an interior. It's one of those renovation expenses where it really makes sense to invest both aesthetically and practically. Quality flooring should be both beautiful and durable.
"When a home has natural material flooring, you can easily save on carpets. Walking on such floors is pure pleasure," says Kлавдия Лученко. In one of her recent projects, the designer used marble-look ceramic tile in the kitchen and solid oak engineered flooring in other rooms.
Tip from INMYROOM: Exclusive materials are usually found in special catalogs or ordered abroad. However, it's much more convenient to choose the right flooring by viewing it in person and comparing it with samples of other finishing materials – wallpapers, wall panels – and furniture. And now this is possible!
The Premio trade gallery has opened in the Kaширский Двор shopping complex. It features interior boutiques from leading European manufacturers of finishing materials and furniture showrooms. The selection is wide: Premio offers both trending and classic items that make an interior look expensive and modern. Moreover, choosing timeless finishes will save money — you won't need to renovate for many years.

Lighting Fixtures
One interesting detail can set the tone for the entire interior. Such an accent can be an original and expensive light fixture, like in Anna Krapivko's project. Unusual metal spheres inlaid with faceted glass look as if they were recently purchased from a New York antique store. At the same time, the affordable decor of the rest of the interior harmoniously emphasizes this.

Bathroom Fixtures
An unusual bathtub or sink will catch the attention of a refined aesthetic faster than the most expensive marble tile. Sophisticated shapes or an interesting faucet design will add more luster to the interior than a gold bathtub. This principle is followed by Maria Polyanskaya. In one of her projects, in a minimalist bathroom, all the focus is placed on beautiful sanitary fixtures.

Wall Finishing
An accent in interior design can be made using finishing materials with minimal furniture. An example of such a solution is the project by Ileda By designers. In one space, they managed to find room for mirrors, paint, and geometric tiles on the walls, as well as vibrant floors in marble-like tones with green veins. It looks modern and expensive.

Texture and Color
The pinnacle of skill is to make an interior look expensive through the right combination of textures and colors. This requires attention to every detail. The main rule: define what will be the background and what will be the accent, and don't try to combine everything expensive in one interior at once.
"Walls and furniture are deliberately made as background for décor and paintings – the owner collects art. The canvases are placed on a commode made of American walnut with lacquer, which pairs beautifully with the unusual chair. The color tones in the paintings are echoed in abstract patterns on the carpet," said designers of Home Emotions about applying this rule in a four-room Moscow apartment.
