Beautiful interior for inspiration

At first glance, this house seems unremarkable, but inside it is bright and cozy. Take a look at how you can restore a cottage on your own.

This small cottage built in 1955 was inherited by Jet Witzke from her parents. What started as a dilapidated cottage turned into a luxurious villa: the house sits amid cliffs on Denmark's eastern coast, offering a stunning view of the ocean.

Jet has her own home goods store, so she had a general idea of the kind of atmosphere she wanted to live in. Another important factor was that the house should have enough space for family and friends to gather. Fortunately, all her wishes were fulfilled.

In contrast to the dark exterior, the interior of the house is bright and airy. Jet painted the walls and floor white to visually expand the rooms. Color was added through furniture, art pieces, and vintage items.

For example, the chairs, carpet, and mirror on the kitchen were all sourced from her own store. “I'm generally a fan of calmer tones, but for a cottage, I think it's just right,” Jet says.

The cabinet and granite countertop island were bought at auction. Sometimes you can find great items in the most unexpected places.

Naturally, there's also room for IKEA items — like the frameless pouf in the living room. By the way, this room opens directly to the backyard. In summer, the doors open wide to keep the house cool.

A small shower was installed in the backyard, always handy when the family returns from the beach. It’s not just the family either: this house is often full of guests.

They bring their gear to go water skiing. In the evenings, everyone gathers in the kitchen or living room. Isn’t that perfect?
