Recently we told about the apartment of bloggers Kati and Kostya. The guys did all the sketches themselves, prepared a design project and bought all the materials. But not everything was as simple as it seemed: there were also mistakes here. We tell you what to pay attention to when hiring a construction team.

Incorrect installation of passage switches in the corridor

The guys planned several lighting scenarios and even provided for two-key switches by the front door and in the bedroom to turn lights on at one end of the corridor and off at another, without having to go back. But after renovation it turned out that not all light fixtures work and one doesn't function.

Solution: always discuss all lighting scenarios in advance with an electrician and monitor his work. Such mistakes can still be corrected during renovation.

Light fixtures were of poor quality

One of the light fixtures in the bathroom melted down completely, and now all of them have to be replaced (the guys bought light fixtures as a set). At the same time, the holes in the suspended ceiling were made exactly for these light fixtures, so the ceiling also has to be retensioned.

Solution: always check the equipment before purchasing — read reviews online. Even if it's something as trivial as light fixtures.

Walls were not leveled properly

During renovation, workers made a niche in the corridor for a wardrobe-closet. But they didn't level the walls properly, and a small gap formed between the ceiling and the wardrobe, which had to be covered with a trim.

Solution: always double-check the work of builders so you don't have to regret anything later.

Incorrect drain for the mixer

In the bathroom, Kati and Kostya made a drain for a standard mixer. But then they accidentally saw an unusual shower system in the store and decided to take it. It turned out that the drain was not suitable for this system.

Solution: buy plumbing fixtures first, and only then make drains for them.

Inaccurate joint of baseboard and laminate

The workers glued the baseboards directly to the laminate, which was laid as a single contour. Due to temperature changes, the floor can sometimes 'move'. This happened: in winter the floor slightly shrank, and the spackle used to mount the baseboards cracked. Kati had to cut it off, and a dirty gap remained between the floor and the baseboard.

Solution: don't be afraid to ask questions of the builders and visit the construction site more often to check the quality of work.
