6 Things to Do in Spring in Your Apartment
It's time for more than just washing windows
It's also necessary to shake out your apartment from its winter slumber. We explain how to get rid of clutter, what you must clean specifically in spring, and how to refresh your interior.
Repot Indoor Plants
Spring is the best time to repot indoor flowers that are waking up from their winter sleep. You can start as early as March, when the sun is still not so active. Young and fast-growing plants need fresh soil and a pot that is about a centimeter larger in diameter than the previous one. Mature plants that have stopped growing but look healthy only need the top layer of soil refreshed. In March, you can also add the first fertilizers.

It's better to delay washing windows until mid-April. Snow might still fall in March. As it melts and drips off the roof, it can ruin all your hard-earned cleanliness. By mid-spring, you can install mosquito nets. Wash them in soapy water and dry them thoroughly in the sun. If window cleaning is your least favorite household task, leave it to a professional cleaning company.

The best time to sort through your belongings is at the transition between seasons — it's easier to know what you definitely want to get rid of. Gather everything in one place, for example, all your spring clothes and sort them by categories: recycle, give away/sell to others, too precious to throw away, will wear. Handle the first two categories as you wish. The last two categories should be sorted or hung separately. After six months, it will be easier to determine what you truly need to get rid of if you haven't touched those items.

If repainting walls or reapplying wallpaper seems too radical to refresh your apartment, textiles can help. Replace curtains and sheer drapes with something lighter, buy new decorative pillowcases in fresher colors. Instead of a thick blanket, lay down a thin cotton one. The same applies to warm quilts.

It's more pleasant to welcome warm spring and summer on the balcony, so it's worth organizing its decluttering too. Set up storage in an accessible shelf, and place chairs and a coffee table on the freed-up space. Small planters with fresh aromatic greenery will make this spot even cozier.

It's more pleasant to walk barefoot in warm weather, so carpets are best removed before autumn. Either way, they need to be cleaned after winter. The safest option is to take them to a dry cleaner. This is especially true for entry mats that have absorbed dirt from the street all winter long.
