How to Care for Plastic Windows

Following simple maintenance rules for PVC windows will keep them in perfect condition for a long time. By observing basic recommendations, you can prevent deformation, premature aging, and loss of attractiveness in your plastic windows.

Care Rules for Plastic Windows

PVC Profile

• Do not use cleaning agents containing solvents or abrasive materials when cleaning PVC windows, as they may damage the smooth surface of the plastic.
• Dirt and stains on plastic can be easily removed using a soapy solution or any mild foaming cleaning agents. Alcohol may be used to remove stubborn grime. The best solution for plastic window maintenance is using specialized cleaning products designed for PVC profiles.
• Remember that high temperatures and fire are the main enemies of plastic. Avoid placing hot objects on the surface, as they may cause dents or holes.
• PVC profile is a relatively fragile material, prone to scratches and dents, so handle plastic windows with care during daily use.

Glazing Unit

Like regular glass, the glazing unit should be wiped and cleaned from dirt.

Plastic windows retain heat effectively, but stagnant air indoors increases humidity. Therefore, ventilate rooms several times a day and check the functionality of the exhaust ventilation system.

Ensure that nothing blocks the flow of warm air from radiators to windows during winter. Avoid placing plants or other objects on the window sills to prevent internal condensation.

Seals

Seals are responsible for thermal insulation and soundproofing. Made from highly elastic material, they degrade over time due to dust, moisture, and temperature fluctuations.

Rubber seals should be treated with glycerin or silicone oil twice a year, after cleaning off accumulated dust with a mild soapy solution.

Fittings

Fittings are essential components of plastic windows, enabling opening, closing, and rotating mechanisms. To ensure reliable operation, lubricate moving parts once a year with machine oil (2–3 drops) or solidol.

You may also use specialized lubricants included in PVC window care kits. In any case, the lubricant must not contain resins, acids, or substances that degrade anti-corrosion coatings.

Drain Channels

Regularly clean drain channels located at the bottom of the frame. Open the window sash to see them immediately. A wooden stick can be used to clear blocked drainage.

Windows will not fog up on the inside if the drain openings remain clean.
