How to Save Money on Textiles When Decorating a Bedroom
Sheets, carpets, pillows — even on such seemingly insignificant items, a lot of money goes. We decided to find out how to save money on textiles when decorating a bedroom and asked for advice from an expert.
Marianna Mogilhevskaya is an expert in interior decoration and the owner of her own textile workshop.
Set Priorities
In a bedroom, it should look beautiful first and foremost, so it's not worth completely giving up on textiles. Decide which items you're willing to spend a little more money on and where you can do without.
Window Treatments
Focus on window treatments. It's easy to achieve this if you choose fabric with an attractive pattern. In that case, sheer curtains will be a secondary element and can thus be made from textured or solid-colored fabric. These can often be found at quite reasonable prices.
There is now a large selection of textured fabrics for curtains that are easy to combine with each other. Fabrics can be very thin, similar in density to sheer curtains but with different weaves. For now, you can get by with just these.
Tip: Even the most modest fabric can be easily decorated with various ribbons and beads — such decorative elements usually cost quite a bit less.

Carpets
If focusing on window treatments doesn't work out, carpets can be used for this purpose. Usually, models made from natural fibers are expensive, but a compromise can be found in factory-woven textiles.
Alternatively, you can choose a carpet made from mixed fibers. These are made from yarns that combine natural wool with synthetic materials. They are affordable yet of better quality than carpets made from artificial wool.

Bed Linens
Bed linens can enhance the look of a bedroom, but it's not necessary to choose expensive ones. First and foremost, the bedding should be soft and smooth without any scratchy feeling.
When buying, pay attention to the material. The ideal option is cotton-linen fabric, although such sets are usually quite expensive. Therefore, you can opt for a blend of cotton and polyester — a cheaper alternative that is not entirely synthetic. The key is to ensure that the cotton content is no less than 35%.

Decorative Pillows
This is where it's easiest to draw attention in a bedroom. Pillows can be found in any price range and will look great regardless. If you couldn't decorate the bedroom with curtains or carpets, use pillows.

How to Decide What to Do Without
- If you dream of a Scandinavian-style interior. Scandinavians often do without curtains. Instead, they love simple and modest carpets and decorative pillows. With this approach, it's easy to save money.
- You want both curtains and sheer curtains but can't afford them all at once. Don’t limit yourself in everything: start by ordering one item to make it easier to complete the look later. Residents of upper floors can get by with just one sheer curtain.

- You can't sleep in daylight but curtains are too expensive. Instead of full-length curtains, use roller shades, pleated shades, or blinds. These are easy to replace in the future and fit well in some interior designs.
- It doesn’t matter what kind of curtain rod you use. It can be hidden or shaped to fit the window rather than extending from wall to wall, which reduces fabric consumption for curtains.
