7 Design Exhibitions 2019 You Can't Miss

We looked at the calendar of design events in the first half of the year and chose the most important ones

In our selection are the most impressive events in the world of design. These exhibitions will be interesting not only to professionals, but also to everyone who is interested in design and architecture.

Heimtextil

Where? Frankfurt am Main, Germany
When? January 8–11

What's the highlight? The exhibition has been held annually since 1971, but still manages to surprise: organizers promise to expand the exhibition space and offer new forms of interaction between manufacturers and buyers.

What to see? The latest collections of home and interior textiles. Be sure to visit the third pavilion, where the main seasonal trends will be displayed.

Tip: Tickets can be purchased on the official website. The cost of a single-day ticket is 32 euros.

Maison & Objet

Where? Paris, France
When? January 18–22

What's the highlight? One of the largest design exhibitions in the world, featuring artistic decoration and interior design. Each year over 3,000 exhibitors and 150,000 visitors attend the event.

What to see? New collections of furniture and décor, as well as design installations. For example, Vincent Gregoire will present the installation «Excuse my French!» — the new French style will become a trend for the upcoming year. The best designer of 2019 was Sebastian Herkner.

Tip: To attend the exhibition, you need a personal badge — it can be bought at the entrance to the pavilions or ordered on the official website. The ticket price is 70 euros.

Paris Déco Off

Where? Paris, France
When? January 17–21

What's the highlight? The main textile publishers’ boutiques will open their doors to everyone. The festival will take place on hundreds of exhibition spaces throughout the city.

What to see? Samples of new fabrics, window display competitions, light projections, and the atmosphere of street festivals.

Tip: Don’t know where the exhibition halls are located? You can download maps and routes of free buses on the official website to get from one side of the city to another.

Brafa Art Fair

Where? Brussels, Belgium
When? January 26–February 3

What's the highlight?
One of the oldest art fairs in the world will interest everyone. It's not only about traditional art, but also modern.

What to see? More than a hundred galleries will showcase art objects, from comic drawings to antique furniture. In the next year, Russia will be represented by the Eritage gallery. A notable guest will be the British duo Gilbert & George with their large-scale works.

Tip: Tickets can be purchased on the official website. The cost of tickets is 25 euros for those over 26, 10 euros for people aged 16–26, and free for children.

MosBuild Moscow

Where? Moscow, Russia
When? April 2–5

What's the highlight?
This international exhibition is a great opportunity for manufacturers to showcase their products. At the show, you can not only study products but also ask questions directly to the producers.

What to see? Examples of construction and finishing materials that can be touched and compared side by side.

Tip: Tickets can be purchased on the official website of the event. The ticket price is 400 rubles.

Salone del Mobile Milano

Where? Milan, Italy
When? April 9–14

What's the highlight? A significant event for all designers: the exhibition sets trends in design for the upcoming season. It’s best to book tickets and accommodation in advance — prices increase significantly during the exhibition period.

What to see? All types of furniture — from office to garden. In the next year, there will be many new innovations in architectural and decorative lighting — Euroluce is preparing premieres from the top brands in light design.

Tip: The exhibition is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays. If you register in advance on the website, you can avoid long queues for tickets. The ticket price is 35 euros.

London Festival of Architecture

Where? London, England
When? June 1–30

What's the highlight? London will become an international creative hub for a whole month. In 2019, the festival’s theme will be called “Boundaries”: organizers want to explore what boundaries architecture can set and which it can overcome.

What to see? Exhibitions and masterclasses will be held throughout the city. Main venues are called hubs — every weekend one of the districts becomes the center of the festival.

Tip: Familiarize yourself with the festival program on the official website before visiting London. That way, you won’t miss the most interesting events.
