2-Room Apartment in Sweden with Thoughtful Storage Solutions

112 square meters, high ceilings, many windows, an island kitchen in the center of the apartment, and a corner balcony—this spacious 2-room flat in Gothenburg offers a perfect layout for any interior experiment.

However, the designers chose to stick with modern classicism inspired by unique ceiling moldings.

Using the large windows and three in the living room, which allow plenty of daylight into the apartment, the walls were painted dark blue and gray colors without fear of making the rooms feel dark.

The kitchen and hallway were left white. Since the kitchen is open-plan and visible from both the living room and bedroom, different room colors add a beautiful contrast and depth to the interior.

The dark cabinets on the kitchen also achieve this effect. As in the rest of the apartment, they were planned up to the ceiling with railings and mobile ladders for easy access to the upper shelves. The hallway wardrobes also feature a convenient niche with seating—an alternative to poufs and benches.

Storage systems here are not only practical but also beautifully designed. For example, the wardrobes in the hallway and bedroom feature elegant hardware that blends well with classical elements of the interior, such as a console table and chandelier in the living room.

The kitchen cabinets were bordered with a traditional ceiling skirting, which provides dual benefits: the skirting masks the joint between the structure and the ceiling while harmoniously complementing the old moldings.

Besides classicism mixed with modern elements, several loft accents were incorporated into the interior design, such as industrial stools and a chandelier with exposed bulbs in the kitchen. These elements added character to the otherwise calm decor and expressive yet neutral cabinets.
