Cottage in Sweden with an easy-to-replicate interior
Mari Strengel, a decorator and interior stylist, arrived in the Swedish town of Nakas at the request of the homeowner. The house was put up for sale, though not without regret: the owners had lived there for over twenty years. Mari's task was to make the house photogenic and more appealing to potential buyers.

Since the decorator is close to the spirit of cozy rural interiors, the idea for the final look of the setting came together quickly and easily. Moreover, the object was simple to work with: bright, with high ceilings, numerous windows, and a fireplace, bedrooms on the second floor, and a kitchen with a living room on the first floor.

The first floor is done in neutral tones. White walls were complemented by simple furniture and classic Wishbone chairs mixed with Danish ones that had slightly peeled paint. The combination of new and old is a simple yet always effective technique.

For the bedrooms, Mari chose wallpapers with a minimalist 'countryside' pattern in muted tones that pair beautifully with wooden planks on the floor.
Natural, breathable fabrics with soft textures are exactly what you need for a provincial interior. The decorator added the beds with plain linen bedding in gray and blue shades with a small touch of red.

Vintage items such as old wooden benches and stools, a chest that has seen better days, and a worn-out classic armchair helped add atmosphere to the setting. These simple items can be found in any old house, at grandmother's place, or at the nearest flea market, and they don't require a big investment.
Clay pots and vases, woven baskets, and hats – decor from the same category: cozy, atmospheric, and affordable.

All these techniques Mari likes to use in her other projects as well. And the finishing touch is usually flowers, often dried. But in this interior, she opted for fresh ones. She also promoted the wonderful garden of the house where one can gather a bunch of such flowers during warm weather and decorate the interior with them every day.
