5 Myths About Scandinavian Style That We Believe
Scandinavian-style interiors have been popular for many years. However, many people still believe that living in such an environment is uncomfortable and cold. We asked designer Zhanna Studenцova if this is true.

Myth 1: "Scandinavian style is almost minimalism, so living in such an interior will be uncomfortable and cold. "
Good design always implies high-quality planning — it takes into account ergonomics and the lifestyle of the apartment's inhabitants. In Scandinavian or minimalist interiors, planning is especially noticeable — thanks to laconic modern furniture and simple finishing.
But a Scandinavian-style interior can be more economical and comfortable: here, modular furniture in modern style, nightstands from the 70s, and a rocking chair inherited from grandmother can coexist easily. Add quality textiles to this, and the coldness will disappear, while a comfortable living space will emerge.

Myth 2: "A Scandinavian-style interior looks cheap — like a budget hotel. It also resembles a retail furniture and home goods display room."
A good designer never fully furnishes a room with furniture from just one collection. For him, basic items include modular furniture, bed bases, built-in storage systems — things that serve specific functions. These can be either budget or high-end.
Emotional elements are provided by accents: repainted old Viennese chairs, hand-knitted blankets, brought from a trip. This can also be a modern silk carpet by a famous designer or a slab wood countertop of valuable timber species. Use items for any budget in your interior, the key is to approach selection with taste and not be afraid to mix them.

Myth 3: "Scandinavian style is primarily white or very light walls."
The trick lies in balance: for Scandinavian style, it's characteristic to have an abundance of natural light and free space without unnecessary details.
Using intense wall colors is possible if the color is balanced by a large window or carefully planned zonal lighting, light flooring. Don't be afraid to add color — a Scandinavian interior with rich hues looks energetic. By the way, the favorite color of Scandinavians is the shade of St. Paul's Blue.

Myth 4: "To create a Scandinavian-style interior, you have to completely change the furniture in your apartment."
The kind of interiors we call Scandinavian were shaped over many years in Northern countries. Quality furniture was passed down from generation to generation. Particular value was placed on handmade items.
In Scandinavian interiors, old items get a second life and fit into new settings. Therefore, you can easily combine items from different eras and styles. For example, on the photo — a repainted 70s-era wardrobe.

Myth 5: "Scandinavian style is banal. There's no soul to its inhabitants."
Any interior can be a collection of furniture and mundane decorative tricks — regardless of style. At the same time, any interior can tell about its inhabitants.
When creating a concept, an experienced designer may base it on a family photograph of the client or an item with history. Step by step, he creates an interesting play of forms, colors, and textures. Because in the end, it's these very elements that connect the interior with its inhabitants.
