Noble shades, aged furniture, tactile fabrics — creating an interior that captures the warm vibe of the French Riviera is within everyone's reach. We explain what you'll need for that

The Provence style, with its clean palette and furniture in the spirit of charming rural classicism, looks great in both country homes around Moscow and urban apartments with grey landscapes outside the windows. Together with Leroy Merlin, we explain how to create a modern interior with replicas of this style.

Finishing

Wooden panels, textured plaster, and exposed ceiling beams are popular in Provence interiors — an excellent solution for a country house. In an apartment, you can get by with paint or textured wallpapers, such as those with a faded floral pattern, mimicking plaster, concrete, or limestone.

Choose parquet, laminate, or solid wood boards with cracks and wear for a convincing "village" effect.

Furniture

Provence style originally emerged in the countryside homes of Bohemian artists escaping city life to explore the provinces. Thus, its furniture is classical, featuring hand-crafted and hand-painted elements that are both elaborate and simple.

In modern settings, just two or three pieces of furniture in this style are enough. For example, a buffet or round dining table on the kitchen or a bed with an ornate headboard in the bedroom.

Textiles

Abundant textiles are a hallmark of the Provence style. The fabrics are simple, light, and natural — linen, cotton, and matlasse. A recognizable motif in this style is flowers, such as in the "Rosemary" curtain design.

Another popular choice is textiles with a print of "tual de juie" — scenes of pastoral life of shepherds and shepherdesses. Three or four pillows with Provence patterns can quickly transform a monochrome sofa and add the right atmosphere to the interior.

Lighting

Chandeliers like the "Inspire Crystal" or any classic design would work well. Asymmetric modern models, however, are unlikely to fit into a Provence-style interior, even if slightly stylized.

Color Palette

Lavender, blue, mint, ochre, olive — natural Provence colors resonate with local interiors. The dominant palette is pale, as if bleached by the sun.

Decor

Provence is a style for those who truly love decorating their homes. It's great if the decor is classic, such as ornate candlesticks, porcelain figurines of birds, or hand-painted plates.

Another winning option is flowers in elegant vases or flower pots, such as lavender-toned ones like the "Light Blue" pot. Mirrors with carved frames can also be used in any room, from the living room to the foyer.
