Inspiration: Idea for Decoration

Where to start on the path to a perfect Scandinavian interior? First, define the color palette and proportions of colors. Second, understand key decorative techniques.

In our cover image, approximately 30% is a blue palette, 30% neutral gray, 30% wood tones, and 10% cool metal. Main decorative techniques include neutral background, dominance of natural wood, accent kitchen furniture, and a blend of modern and vintage styles.

Starting the work: creating a mood board

It's not always possible, and often unnecessary, to implement all ideas and concepts. For example, in the inspirational image, we have a kitchen of at least 25 sq. m, but in practice, we're more likely to deal with a 15 sq. m kitchen.

Therefore, we will forgo the kitchen island, replace textured walls with matte finishes, and plan the upper rack of the kitchen cabinet. Additionally, we'll compensate for the lack of natural light and windows by adding mint tones to the pale blue palette.

Moving to implementation

The base of our interior is light gray walls and engineered wood. The main heroes are mint kitchen cabinets. Modern appliances will be neighbors with shelves and light in a rustic style. Natural motifs are supported by a beech countertop and plants.

Find the furniture, decor, and plants you need in one place at good prices – in the “Leroy Merlin” store. So, here's my choice:

The base of our interior is light gray walls and engineered wood. The main heroes are mint kitchen cabinets. Natural motifs will be supported by a ceramic granite sink. A touch of rustic style will be added to the Scandinavian interior. We'll also add loft aesthetics. Accessories made from natural materials are essential. A geometric cushion will create a bold accent. Plants are an indispensable element of the Scandinavian style. And having a cat in the house adds warmth, even in the form of such ironic posters.

Budget planning

For example, I took a kitchen of 15 square meters.

  • Flooring: 15 m X 1958 = 29,370 ₽
  • Kitchen: 1 unit X 40,131 = 40 131 ₽
  • Countertop: 2 units X 8990 = 17,980 ₽
  • Wall tiles: 4 m X 1165 = 4,660
  • Range hood: 1 unit X 4722 = 4,722
  • Cooktop: 1 unit X 12,830 = 12,830 ₽
  • Basin: 1 unit X 3700 = 3,700 ₽
  • Faucet: 1 unit X 2200 = 2,200 ₽
  • Chandelier: 1 unit X 3121 = 3,121
  • Shelf: 1 unit X 937 = 937
  • Door handles: 18 units X 125 = 2,250 ₽
  • Cup holder: 1 unit X 276 = 276
  • Soap dispenser: 1 unit X 550 = 550
  • Poster: 1 unit X 948 = 948
  • Cushion: 1 unit X 323 = 323
  • Cushion: 1 unit X 284 = 284
  • Flower pot: 1 unit X 141 = 141
  • Plant: 1 unit X 256 = 256

Design hacks that will give your kitchen a Scandinavian character

Reconsider the monolithic upper rack of kitchen cabinets in favor of open shelves. Break free from clichés and stereotypes by adding items from other styles to the interior. Choose white shades that lean toward gray or beige. This minimizes contrasting shadows. A rectangular table with rounded corners is much more comfortable and ergonomic than a round one. Plants are, perhaps, the best decor in a Scandinavian interior. Don't forget about minimalist and simple forms and pastel color palette. Arrange furniture and decor

In our case, the neutral color palette will be enhanced by geometry and rhythms.

  • We rotated the simplest tile pattern by 45 degrees and extended the backsplash to the ceiling. The chevron pattern softened the horizontal-vertical narrative.
  • Partial removal of the upper cabinet rack added space and eliminated the need to constantly open and close doors — everything essential is now within reach.
  • The mood is created by small details, in our case — plates of various colors and cute posters. A shelf made from plumbing pipes and a rustic-style chandelier blend well in a Scandinavian kitchen. The pink cushion complements the pastel palette, and the geometric pattern echoes the backsplash. Finally, a plant in a minimalist planter completes the look of the Scandinavian kitchen.
