Interior in Lyon Inspired by Star Wars
We are used to thinking that a French interior is characterized by cool lavender tones, Viennese chairs, mosaic floors and dozens of other common techniques and clichés. It's amusing that in France itself, interiors are increasingly being made differently — bold and eclectic.

Yet even if nothing typically French appears at first glance in a modern Parisian or, for example, Marseille interior, something special will still be in the air. This two-level apartment in Lyon, decorated by interior designer Claude Cartier, is exactly such a case.

The theme of space and Star Wars was the leitmotif of this project. By the way, it is not only the Darth Vader mask in the living room that reveals this theme. The interior features a large number of futuristic figurines and "cosmic" lamps, paintings and carpets with abstract themes evoking thoughts of falling meteors and a starry night sky.

Claude is well known in Lyon for her past in the fashion industry, her own furniture boutique on Auguste Contat Street and her special, sometimes rather unusual approach to interiors.
In this project, the decorator used her signature technique and mixed several complex colors using numerous large brushstrokes. These were employed in the form of contrasting rhombuses on velvet curtains in the living room and storage shelves for furniture — dark brown on a yellow background.

Marble, warm metals and neutral shades of gray — from very light to graphite — helped unite the unusual elements and make the setting ironic — but not ridiculous.

Finally, Claude decided to enhance the finished interior with velvet, carved details and cornices — not obvious but very common techniques in classical French homes and apartments. These brought the same atmosphere floating in the air into the setting. In short, pure space!
