While sorting through items left by previous residents, new owners stumbled upon curtains with a floral pattern. This discovery became the starting point for their interior design.

Flawless, brand-new, factory-fresh interiors are not what England is known for. That's exactly what the owners of a house in Oxfordshire, built in the 18th century by a local priest, gave designer Emma Sims-Hilditch as a challenge: to make the new interior look as lived-in as possible.

Besides that, the clients wanted to incorporate something from the past of this old house – vintage floral curtains left behind by previous tenants.

Thanks to its classical layout, large French windows, and a beautiful fireplace in the center of the living room, the house gave an impression that the cozy English ambience was naturally encouraged by the building itself. Therefore, the design solutions applied in the interior were typical of England.

Since the theme of flowers had already been addressed in the planning of the new interior, Emma proposed making it a recurring motif. For example, small flowers appeared in the textile solution of one of the bedrooms and on the kitchen wall — there, one of the walls was covered with floral wallpaper.

The previous owners' curtains were used to decorate the windows in the living room. All of this was complemented by a 'vichy' pattern and an English check: such a design blends beautifully with small botanical motifs and adds charm to the interior.

Despite the abundance of flowers and checks in the house's decor, it doesn't feel visually heavy. There is plenty of natural light, white and olive tones dominate the decor, and the designer's sensitivity to the clients' needs helped create a light, cozy, and lived-in atmosphere – very much in the English style.
