Apartment in Stockholm with a sleeping place under the ceiling
The first thing that catches your attention in this 40-square-meter apartment is the impressive ceiling height: a full 4.2 meters. The building where the apartment is located was originally built over a hundred years ago as a pharmaceutical institute. Two years ago, Swedish company Oscar Properties bought the building and converted it into a residential house with stylish apartments like this one.

To preserve the academic past of the building, designers decorated this and other apartments in the house by incorporating motifs from the interiors of reading halls of famous libraries – the Library of Saint-Genevieve in Paris and the National Library of Sweden.
The idea first found its expression in a color palette made up of graphite, dark green and golden tones. These were supported by restrained furniture, lighting, and decor with vintage notes.

By using vertical elements wisely, a high kitchen cabinet was placed compactly with several open shelves that somewhat resemble bookshelves, and a two-level space with a sleeping place under the ceiling was created.

A restrained design can also be found in the bathroom, which was furnished with minimalist Duravit plumbing fixtures and enhanced with iconic Tara and Dornbracht taps. The washing machine was cleverly hidden behind a mirror door in the shower area.

Stairs are another element that designers used to introduce library motifs into the apartment’s interior. The stairs leading up to the sleeping area, along with their railing, were highlighted in a contrasting dark color, making this structure a bright accent in the room.
The other stairs were simply mounted on the wall. They serve not only to support the overall interior concept but also to reach items stored in upper kitchen cabinets or shelves. Books may be missing, but that’s easily remedied.
