Together with Russian designers, we prove that a flat in a khrushchyovka can be stylish and comfortable

Low ceilings, small total area, tiny kitchen — these are just some of the problems faced by owners of khrushchyovka flats. But even for these spaces, there are impressive solutions — as shown in these projects.

From a khrushchyovka to a stylish studio

On just 30 square meters, the designer had to fit a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and storage systems. Additionally, the designer needed to create a loft-style interior for a young woman.

Khrushchyovka in Scandinavian style — without IKEA

Two months for renovation, modest budget, and lots of imagination — a family from Kazakhstan managed to turn a dark and cramped two-room flat in a khrushchyovka into a bright apartment in Scandinavian style.

Cozy interior in a Moscow five-story building

2.7-meter ceilings and a five-meter kitchen — once Moscow residents were happy with such housing, but over fifty years, comfort expectations have changed. Designers from Bureau 'Common Area' had to use hidden reserves in the khrushchyovka to create a modern interior where it's pleasant to live.

32 square meters and loft elements

This flat is located in a brick building from 1960, but the area, layout, and ceiling height are exactly like a khrushchyovka.

The owner wanted to create a cozy and livable loft with a convenient layout and well-thought-out storage systems. Designer Maria Dadiani was not intimidated but inspired by the challenge — the result pleased everyone.

What can be done with a 'killed' two-room flat

What was provided? A dead two-room flat in a five-story brick building — indeed, located in a good area — and the client with whom Katya Alagich and Ilya Gulyants from El Born Studio quickly found understanding and shared vision of the future interior.Photo: in Modern style, Apartment, Guide, Pavel Alexeyev, Maria Dadiani, Khrushchyovka, Katya Alagich, Ilya Gulyants, El Born Studio, Bureau 'Common Area' – photo on our websiteDesign: Katya Alagich, Ilya Gulyants
