All About Decorative Partitions: Expert Review
Choosing the Right Way to Zone Your Space
Mila Kolpakova explained all types of partitions in a simple and understandable way – you just need to choose the most suitable option.
Mila Kolpakova is an interior design expert, decorator, and blogger.
Partitions come in two types: full zoning, which completely divide the room into sections, and partial or mobile ones.
Full Zoning Partitions – Sliding
Can be made from various materials (metal, wood, MDF), with or without glass. The obvious advantage is that they don't take up space when opening. The drawbacks include poor sound insulation and relatively high cost.

Glass Partition (Swing or Foldable)
There are many options: with metal, wooden, or MDF frames, with clear or frosted glass, and various numbers of panels. These partitions are visually light and also take up little space.

Partial Zoning Partitions – Curtains
The simplest and most affordable option. To ensure such a partition not only blocks light but also sound, you can use special acoustic fabric. If you only need visual division, the curtain can be very lightweight.

Screen
The most mobile partition – it is easiest to remove or change. Choose the screen carefully, otherwise there is a high chance of ruining the interior. But if chosen well, the space will be transformed beautifully.

Partition-Shelf
Serves two functions: zoning and storage. Suitable if you have space for it (for storing books, the shelf depth should be at least 35–40 cm). Don't forget about organization on the shelves!

Ropes
Spaces can be zoned with monochrome or colorful ropes – they blend into themed rooms and minimalist interiors.

Rails
Wooden rails look great. They can be vertical, horizontal, or form patterns.

Wooden Strips
Bark, twigs, and thin tree trunks are perfect for eco-interiors or themed spaces.

Macramé
If your interior is in the boho style, macramé curtains are an excellent choice.

Carved Patterns
With cutouts or glass inserts, made from MDF, wood, or metal – the choice depends on interior style and personal preferences.

Glass and Stained Glass
A very eye-catching solution, with the drawback of high cost.
