Sink by the window, kitchen island, and patterned tiles
For new clients, designer Julia Chernova created a functional kitchen with a dining area, kitchen island, and large stove. We learned about universal tips from her directly.

Julia Chernova is a designer. She graduated from the Smolensk Institute of Arts specializing in design. She founded the creative group 3DGroup.

1. Move the sink to the window

If possible, choose an unconventional layout and move the sink to the window. Consider several details: for warm air from the radiator to escape, you'll need a windowsill with special holes. To prevent the faucet from blocking the window, install a three-panel frame where the center panel is solid.

It's not necessary to use the same tile for the kitchen backsplash. Choose smaller monochromatic elements for the main area and add an accent near the stove. Large patterned or geometric tiles would look great.

During cooking, many items should be within reach – use the space around the stove for this. Add drawers to regular cabinets on both sides: store spices, utensils, and handy items in them.

How to separate the dining area from the work zone? Place a kitchen island – every housewife's dream. It's convenient for cooking or grabbing a quick snack, placing a bar stool next to it.

Ceiling coffers are more commonly found in living rooms – the living room and bedroom. Why not use this technique on the kitchen? The space will immediately acquire a more formal look.

Using a lot of furniture can make the kitchen look cluttered and cramped. The solution is to use semi-transparent plastic furniture: it looks more compact, folds easily, and takes up less space.
