The two-room apartment for a family couple was decorated in the manner befitting this location – with refined French charm

When beginning the interior design of this flat near the Vincennes Forest on the outskirts of Paris, the team at 10surdix first evaluated the architectural solution of the house in the Ottoman style, typical for mid-19th-century Parisian buildings. This includes not only ornate facades and picturesque roofs but also high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and several fireplaces in the Louis XVI style.

Designers did not completely restructure the interior around classical elements of the house and flat, but rather highlighted them locally. As a tool, they chose a reliable and proven method – color.

Thanks to an open layout and the absence of doors between the living room, kitchen, dining area, and hallway, views from virtually every angle reveal an interesting color scheme in the apartment. The main space was painted white, and parts of the walls and ceiling in the hallway were painted deep blue. The result is graphic and unconventional.

The fireplace in the living room, which serves as a compositional center of the apartment, was coordinated with the ceiling and walls in the hallway and complemented with its accessories, dishes, and blue glass vases. Other fireplaces were left white to avoid overloading the interior. Nevertheless, they look self-contained even in white.

Another clever technique used in this interior is the emphasis on verticality. Floor-to-ceiling curtains, a floor lamp with a long stem, decorative partitions in the kitchen, and vertical radiators visually make the ceilings even higher.

Incidentally, these radiators were not placed by chance: the apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows and high ceilings is harder to heat than one with standard-sized windows. However, here small color tricks helped. Sand-colored curtains, powdered chairs, brown decorative panels in the bedroom, and beige-toned furniture made the setting look visually softer and warmer.
