We create an elegant, versatile, and light kitchen space — just like the main character's interior in the acclaimed movie by David Fincher

With the help of Mr.Doors experts, we followed the work of the movie set designers from "Gone Girl," analyzed the details of the kitchen design in Nick and Amy Dunn's house, and selected items that will make a kitchen like in the movie even more convenient and functional.

What makes Amy Dunn's kitchen special?

Amy's kitchen is a real find for lovers of modern classic style. The design solution includes many traditional elements — from shaker-style cabinet doors to a classic-shaped range hood and brass hardware — yet the overall look remains modern and fresh.

As the plot unfolds, Nick and Amy Dunn move from New York to Missouri, so the couple's kitchen design was carefully planned with an eye toward Manhattan and Brooklyn urban interiors.

Just like in a typical New York apartment, the layout is studio-style, where the kitchen zone smoothly blends into the living room, forming a unified space with a monochromatic palette and featuring wood and stainless steel finishes.

The island sits between the G-shaped kitchen and the bar counter, a common feature in American housing. This is a very practical solution that allows Amy to interact face-to-face with her husband and guests while chopping vegetables, rolling dough, or rinsing dishes — the island is equipped with an additional sink.

Not only that: on the exterior side of the island, you can spot a mini-bar. In the movie, it's not accidental — it’s a subtle reference to the family business, as the Dunning couple owns their own bar, managed by Nick with his sister.

The result of the movie set designers' work is an impressive, multi-layered, yet somewhat sterile and overly perfect kitchen — exactly what the unfolding events in the house demanded. To bring life to such a kitchen, all you need is to add stylish accessories, vibrant tableware, and fill the space with warmth.

Material Selection

To ensure that the kitchen retains its original appearance for years and stays relevant for decades, Mr.Doors designers selected three durable and long-lasting cabinet panel options.

The dominant color of the kitchen is white, and for white cabinets, Mr.Doors offers panels in White Antique color. The dark brown kitchen island can be made in Dark Oak to match the prototype. If a more neutral tone appeals to you, alternatives include panels in Rich Walnut and Lima Palisander.

From Screen to Life: Mr.Doors Kitchen Project

Here is a refined, meticulously detailed version of Amy Dunn's kitchen as presented by Mr.Doors experts. You’ll hardly tell it apart from the original.

Just like in the movie, the Mr.Doors kitchen project features numerous spacious cabinets, with all upper cabinets except one having glass inserts. This design element helps easily locate needed ingredients and spices, while also making the kitchen space feel more airy. Those who appreciate fine tableware can place their favorite cups and plates behind the glass to decorate the kitchen without worrying about dust accumulation.

The abundance of cabinets and drawers eliminates the need for railings, as the ladles, saucepans, and spatulas on them would likely disrupt the refined and ephemeral atmosphere of this kitchen space.

By the way, Mr.Doors experts decided to enhance this effect by using light decorative hardware in brass — in the original version, the hardware is black.

Dark countertops create a noble contrast to the white cabinetry and add rhythmic variation. The same effect is achieved on the kitchen island, which is finished in a walnut tone.

Integrated appliances blend perfectly into the style of modern American classicism, which is reflected in the kitchen design at Nick and Amy’s home. And of course, the traditional American kitchen sink located by the window to keep things interesting during routine dishwashing.
