Modern trends in finishing residential and office spaces have advanced far beyond traditional gypsum board and its plastering with painting. Currently, the market demands greater variety in wall textures and relief designs. One of the 'new trends' in interior design is modern decorative wall panels.

What are they? What are the advantages and benefits of using them? This article will cover these and many other questions.

Gypsum-Vinyl Panels

These panels consist of a gypsum board sheet with a premium vinyl wallpaper coating applied in factory conditions. Panels measure 1.2 m x 3.3 m and can be cut in any direction to fit any size. Installation is done into a special frame made of aluminum profiles.

Gypsum-vinyl offers a vast color palette for interior walls in homes and offices, significantly speeds up the finishing process, simplifies installation, reduces labor time, and eliminates human error—there's no risk of incorrect thickness in the plaster layer or poor adhesive bonding when installing pre-finished panels.

3D Decorative Panels

Three-dimensional decorative panels are manufactured by several Russian producers. Most use MDF as the base material, occasionally thin plywood. MDF is highly suitable for various processing methods, such as routing, to create unique patterns and exclusive visual effects.

After routing, panels are covered with a textured PVC film offering a wide range of color options. PVC film enhances wall durability—can be cleaned with moisture, as it resists wear and water exposure. This property extends their use to kitchens, entryways, and even bathrooms.

Besides PVC film, wall decorative panels may also feature coatings made of:

  • natural leather,
  • phosphorescent materials,
  • acoustic linings.

Each coating provides specific functional and aesthetic benefits. Acoustic decorative panels are used in professional recording studios and private home interiors, especially in home theaters or spaces where precise sound quality is essential.

Phosphorescent decorative panels are used in entertainment venues, shopping centers, and similar settings. Leather-covered panels serve as unique accent elements in wall finishes.

Relief Decorative Panels

These panels are made from MDF and natural wood veneer. Relief panels have the most original appearance and are widely used by designers to create unique and unforgettable interior spaces. Installation is done using high-strength adhesives or special clamps.

Relief panels allow creating entirely different wall patterns from the same material, depending on panel orientation. Some series (e.g., Bonita products) are easily cut in all directions. This feature allows diagonal cutting, enabling wall reliefs composed of triangular elements.
