Fresh view on black color: apartment in Sweden
This six-room apartment with a total area of 158 square meters, built in 1912, is located in Södermalm — one of the districts of Stockholm.

Despite its convenient layout and good size, storage space here is quite limited. The issue can be solved by converting an empty room into a wardrobe (if you look at the plan, it is located at the bottom).
The apartment features two adjacent studies equipped with workspaces and libraries, three bedrooms, and a modern kitchen. The remaining space is dedicated to the common area – the living room and dining room.

Interior designers from real estate agency Erik Olsson tried to ensure that the modern fireplace – an alternative to traditional tile stoves typical for homes of early 20th century – and black parquet in the living room do not get lost in the interior but rather become its starting point.

In the living room design, they drew inspiration from the floor: window frames were also painted black, and matching sideboards, tables, and shelves were added. To connect the living room’s interior with the rest of the apartment, wardrobes, wallpapers, and decorative elements in this color appeared in other rooms as well. A lot of attention was paid to the combination of black with transparent glass and glossy, flowing details: a black display cabinet and semi-transparent chairs in the dining room fit into the overall design particularly well.

However, black accents were not the only focus; other colors such as pink, raspberry, and mint were also introduced into the space via textiles, wallpapers, and decor.
Paintings played a significant role in the effective color scheme of the interior. Here, both calm and vibrant, expressive graphics are collected, which perfectly support the rhythmic and fresh atmosphere that was ultimately achieved.
