They Ruin the Design: 6 Mistakes When Installing Household Appliances
Learn from the pros about common mistakes and how to fix them
How to create a functional and comfortable interior without sacrificing aesthetics? Interior designers from BeInDesign share their insights.
You didn't consider everything during the planning stage
All details should be reflected in the project: the number and placement of household appliances, outlets, and switches. Plan everything together with a designer—taking into account the style of decoration, compatibility with finishing materials, ceiling height, and lighting. Consider details like skirting board height, distances to outlets, or the direction of air from an air conditioner, and in which direction cabinet doors open.

Improper Installation and Mounting
Exposing cables, gas pipes, or unattractive ducting from the range hood can nullify all the designer's efforts. It is essential to hide utilities and cover up any shortcomings—there are many ways to do so.

Overdoing the Household Appliances
Only what is used regularly should be visible. Trying to fit all the appliances that caught your eye on a spacious kitchen will turn any interior into a showroom and strip it of comfort. Imagine daily life in this space and evaluate what you will use often and what can be tucked away.

You didn’t hide the excess
Even in styles where appliances don’t look out of place, efforts are made to conceal them. Kitchen equipment is often disguised as cabinet panels, TVs as paintings, and audio systems built into shelf sides. These techniques help maintain stylistic unity within the interior.
If it's not possible to hide all necessary devices, choose them so they complement the interior in color or design. It's now easy to find retro phones, wooden speakers with brass fittings, or purple refrigerators.

Cables Stretch Across the Entire Apartment
It's impossible to imagine a modern apartment without internet, but routers (often located by the front door), transmitters, and cable webs can ruin any interior. The solution is wireless connectivity and compact routers with strong signals. Carefully mask the router placement: cabinet doors, mirrors, or gypsum boards will significantly dampen the signal.

Too Practical Approach to Bathroom Decoration
We tend to treat the bathroom utilitarian: placing washing machines there, hanging clothes lines, storing cleaning chemicals and supplies. But the bathroom is primarily a place for relaxation and self-care.
Conceal washing and drying machines with cabinet doors or hide them in niches. If space allows, you can set up a small laundry room in a storage closet.
