I recommend planting plants in special modules that are attached to the fence or a special support structure. You can fill these modules with fertile soil or pour in a nutrient solution — in the latter case, such an arrangement is called hydroponic. Keep in mind that plants in containers need to be watered much more frequently than in regular garden beds.

This option will appeal to those who plan to grow vegetable or berry crops in small quantities. Boxes and pots are mobile, they can be easily moved around, and the soil can be changed each season. Watering is done manually.

Low Garden Beds with Edging

Today, you will find a wide variety of plastic and metal edgings on the market, which have a height ranging from 13 to 21 cm. Plastic edgings often mimic the look of wooden logs or decorative stone. For winter, I would recommend removing them to avoid deformation. The strip for metal edgings can be ordered from the manufacturer — in this way, you can make garden beds higher than 21 cm. The width of the garden bed should not exceed 90 cm — otherwise, it will be inconvenient to hoe the plants.

I like framing garden beds with wooden strips, wooden logs, or planks. Want your garden beds to last for generations? Use larch with special impregnation. In this case, you can adjust the height of garden beds according to your preference: plants raised above ground level will be warmer, and thus, you'll get a faster harvest.
