How to Arrange a Balcony: 9 Inspiring Examples

A home office or a relaxation area? Or maybe a spot for breakfast outdoors? Any of the projects implemented by Russian designers can be tried to replicate

At first glance, what interesting things can be organized on a balcony? The right answer is: it all depends on your tastes, habits, and lifestyle. We've collected nine different examples.

1. Home Office

Here there is also an open terrace – in summer it can be used for barbecues. Designer Irina Kliksina joined the balcony to the bedroom and organized a mini home office there.

2. Relaxation Area

If the apartment has two balconies, you can let your imagination run wild. Designer Maria Lazich joined one of them to the kitchen, which became even brighter and more spacious, while the other was turned into a relaxation area.

3. Library

The owners of this apartment in Rostov-on-Don have quite a lot of books. Daniil and Anna Shepanovich from Cubiq Studio not only organized a place for their storage but also created several cozy corners where it's pleasant to spend time with a book. One of them is located on a glazed balcony.

4. Lounging Area

Sergey Bakharev from studio "One-Flat" transformed a typical city apartment into a studio with panoramic views. One balcony became a dining area, and the other – a lounging area with a lounge chair and speakers.

5. Another Lounging Area

In a large apartment with a prestigious interior, the balcony became an extension of the common area. Designer Julia Atamanenko decorated it in the same tones and style as the living room-kitchen. Functionally, it's something between a bar and a relaxation zone.

6. Crafting Corner

In a studio with an area of 22 square meters, designer Alexandra Ladanova found space for both a full-size dining table and a fold-out sofa. She didn't forget about the owner’s favorite hobby – a sewing machine table was placed on the insulated balcony.

7. Outdoor Summer Breakfast Spot

Alexander Malinin and Anastasia Shevelieva from INT2 architecture organized a place for summer breakfasts on the balcony in a single-person apartment. What could be more pleasant than enjoying the blue sky and green leaves in the mornings?

8. Home Office

Nikita Zub always finds hidden reserves in typical one-room apartments. In a 33 square meter flat, the kitchen-dining area and bedroom were arranged, while the balcony became a home office with a desk and lounge chair.

9. Yet Another Lounging Area

A small studio in New Moscow, near the forest, was decorated by Katya Sizova for her friend who bought her first apartment. The interior has already passed the test of time: the studio perfectly suits for parties. When the company gathers in warm weather, the cozy wicker chair on the balcony is always in demand.
