Closer to Nature: 10 Ideas for Decorating an Apartment in Eco Style
In the age of concrete jungles and high technology, the popularity of the eco-trend in design is quite understandable: the farther a person is from nature, the stronger their need for it. The atmosphere of eco style can hide us from urban hustle and stress, bring us closer to nature, and give peace and tranquility. From a technical standpoint, creating an eco-interior is quite simple. The main requirements for it are the use of natural materials and the absence of unnecessary details.
Idea 1: Open Space
Before choosing elements for decorating an apartment in eco style, it's important to have a clear understanding of furniture and room sizes to properly arrange everything without cluttering the space. For example, you can hide wardrobes in niches or separate rooms. The goal is to make the room as spacious and even empty as possible. All emphasis should be placed on natural materials, wood texture, or natural stone.

Idea 2: Light Color Palette
Eco style is usually a visually light interior with lots of air and freedom. Light color palettes are most often used in it. More contrasted dark paint can be used to highlight one of the walls or any interior item. However, it's important to maintain the overall light atmosphere.

Idea 3: Natural Finishing with Painted Texture
For the floor, it is better to lay solid engineered or parquet boards, marble, slate, or any other natural material. The main criterion for choosing finishing is its texture. If it's marble, it's better to choose one with vivid veins. If it's a board, it should have clearly visible knots. The texture and surface of the material must emphasize their natural origin.

Idea 4: Monochromatic Walls
The main attention in an eco interior is given to items and accessories made from natural materials. Walls usually serve as a background, and it's better to keep them light with no extra accents. Sometimes small inlays made from natural materials can be added to the walls or ceiling, harmonizing with the overall room decoration style. This solution adds depth and expressiveness to the interior.

Idea 5: Eco Textiles
For textiles, it is better to use items made from natural or eco-friendly, semi-natural fabrics. Organic fabrics are rarely dyed in bright colors but only in those that can be obtained from natural pigments. That's why eco style is often characterized by calm, neutral color combinations.

Idea 6: Soft Furniture in Neutral Shape and Color
Following the calm palette of textiles, soft furniture should not stand out with bright hues. It's best if it is neutral in shape and free of unnecessary details. Sofas can be upholstered with the same natural textured fabrics (e.g., burlap). Accent cushions on the sofa can be made in contrasting colors or with a more pronounced fabric texture.

Idea 7: Tables Made from Natural Material with Painted Texture
When choosing countertops for an eco interior, one should pay more attention. As with floor finishing, it's better to use natural wood or marble textures. Individual items such as tables, coffee tables, or side tables can be made from solid wood slabs. Typically, solid slabs have many natural painted textures—this is exactly where the attention should be focused in eco style.

Idea 8: Natural Decor
Use as decor what surrounds us in nature. A regular log can perfectly replace the function of a nightstand, coffee table, or phone stand. Flowers and plants are an excellent way to decorate an apartment in eco style. If you don’t like greenery, you can place dry branches in a vase.

Idea 9: Ceiling Without Extra Details
The ceiling in an eco interior is usually flat, smooth, and white. Try to focus attention on the floor and its natural materials. Forget about multi-level ceiling structures and complex elements. For lighting, local spotlights can be installed, and above the table, for example, a neat pendant with a simple form can be used.

Idea 10: No Imitation of Natural Materials
Try not to imitate natural materials or do it very carefully. For example, replacing natural stone with ceramic granite tiles is acceptable, but imitating wood texture with tiles is not a good idea. Wood is the warmest and liveliest material. Replacing it with cold and artificial materials introduces a stylistic dissonance.
