14 Ways to Make the Ceiling Visually Higher
A high ceiling will make any room bright, spacious and cozy. But what if your apartment can't boast such luxury? Let's try to use some tricks, the experience of interior designers and solve this problem.
1. A trendy and affordable option is to install suspended ceilings. Choose a glossy material for such a ceiling. In this way, you will visually increase the height of the room and get a stylish design.

2. Relief structure of multi-level suspended and drop ceilings also helps to visually stretch the room. Although the installation of such a ceiling may steal a few precious centimeters, the visual effect will be opposite.

3. A simpler but no less effective method is to use materials of the same color for wall and ceiling finishing. Paint surfaces or cover them with milk and cream colored wallpapers. Walls and ceiling will merge into one, and the boundary between them will be barely noticeable.

4. Buy low furniture. Sofas without legs, pillows in the form of bags, built-in furniture - all this will deceive the eye and stretch the room upwards. Visually, of course.

5. If we're talking about furniture, there are several important recommendations for choosing its color. For small rooms, choose furniture in light tones. It looks great when the upper part of the kitchen cabinet has white glossy fronts, and the lower part is dark. Such a color play will dissolve the upper part and make an accent on the dark lower drawers.

6. Keep this same trick in mind when choosing the threshold between walls and ceiling.

7. Large tall windows, without a doubt, help achieve the desired effect. If you can't change the size of the window, curtains and drapes will come to the rescue. Install a cornice right under the ceiling and it's good if some fabric lies on the floor. Choose vertical patterns for the curtains, and select drapes from light semi-transparent fabric with barely noticeable stripes.

8. Proper lighting placement is an important step in fighting low ceilings. A bulky chandelier hanging from the ceiling will visually steal those few missing centimeters. Choose cornice lighting and spotlights, and only table lamps and wall sconces that cast light upward. The better the room is lit, the higher and more spacious it will appear.

9. Any woman knows that vertical stripes define a figure. This can be used well in rooms with low ceilings. You can paint the walls with vertical stripes or wallpaper them with a vertical pattern. But remember that such a pattern should not be too frequent and overly contrasting. Otherwise, we will achieve completely different results.

10. The same technique of vertical stripes can be used when choosing furniture. Place tall narrow shelves for books, and make a wardrobe-cupboard up to the ceiling.

11. Another good trick is to choose a trim that does not match the floor color but matches the wall color. This will stretch the room upwards.

12. With high door frames, low ceilings are less noticeable. Increase the opening almost up to the ceiling or extend the window frame above the arch. If possible, completely do away with the door and instead build an arch from gypsum board.

13. The play of contrasts on the floor and walls distracts attention from low rooms. Lay a light rug on a dark floor, hang a beautiful painting on the wall or apply attractive photo wallpapers. By the way, a pattern on the wall that transitions to the ceiling is excellent for visually increasing the space in height.

14. Tall palms with narrow trunks, plants with long narrow leaves not only add coziness to the room but also help visually lift the ceiling. Place small flower pots on tall stands or tables.
