A new family home offers the perfect blend of rural elegance and everyday style
With a passion for detail, interior designer Brooke Wagner blended traditional, modern, and rural elements in a new home in Newport Beach, California, built for a young family of four. The house features Lucite furniture, restored farm wood flooring, sculptural chandeliers, and artistic tile, making its stylistic influences hard to define but overall harmony undeniable.

Location: Newport Beach, California

The entry foyer features a Dutch-style door painted black and a floor made of restored farm wood. These contrast with custom white-painted furniture.

A 6-foot sculptural black iron chandelier contrasts with a white Loft-style ceiling wall. Wagner lined built-in bookshelves to add volume to the geometric design. Deep blue roller shades frame sliding glass doors leading to a balcony with a stunning view.

Although a strictly functional style was avoided, the room has some hints of coastal chic, such as a striped rug and rope details on Lucite chairs. Coffee tables were custom-made for Wagner, positioned to better suit the room's scale.

A very wide dining table was custom-designed and can accommodate a sofa at both ends. The Lucite chandelier connects to the same chairs as in the living room. Finally, the grey rug features metallic threads for added shimmer.

The sculptural black tile in the kitchen butler's pantry is a favorite of guests. "Everyone who sees it touches it. It has real 3D effect," says Wagner. The owner's collection of colored glasses sits in the middle shelf of the glass-door cabinet.

Lucite also found its place in the kitchen with stylish chairs featuring bright, cheerful patterns on the seats. The countertops consist of Delano marble on the island and black soap near the gas range.

The water faucet is installed above the black La Cornue gas stove.

Another kitchen view highlights its farmhouse sink, mini backsplash tile, and shaker-style cabinets—all white.

The glass chandelier in the sun-drenched breakfast area was the first purchase for the home. "The graceful curves of the chandelier help soften the hard black lines of the space," says Wagner. A round table with a galvanized top is surrounded by chairs made from laminated coating that can be wiped clean with a damp sponge—perfect for a family with two small children.

The wine cellar with glass doors provides a stylish way to showcase the owner's wine collection and creates a visual moment at the end of the first-floor hallway.

In the home office, inexpensive leather chairs with brass frames sit before a metal desk and a business chair.

The office is equipped with custom built-in bookshelves painted soft blue by Farrow & Ball. Three brass table lamps add a stylish accent and lighting.

One of the owners grew up in Arizona and wanted Wagner to incorporate elements of cowboy style into the family room. The space features a large leather sectional sofa, geometric parquet tile, and western art.

Restored farm wood was used to create a wall that contains the TV room. A large basket from a brown bush is used as a coffee table with additional storage.

The bright family room balcony is equipped with a collection of outdoor furniture covered in grey fabric from Perennials.

One of the six bathrooms in the house has a stunning combination of rural and modern design. Wall tile imitates brick, and an industrial faucet system provides strength balanced by an elegant gold mirror and glass wall sconces.

One of the children's bathrooms is fitted with custom tile that serves as an important reminder of hygiene. "We wanted to have some fun in the kids' rooms and bathroom and keep a playful atmosphere," says Wagner.
