Express Bedroom Renovation: 7 Steps to Refresh
The walls in this room (together with the ceiling, floor, furniture and accessories) should instantly set the tone for peaceful rest. Transform the bedroom so it fully serves its 'soothing' functions quickly and easily by choosing the right color, lighting, and finishing materials. Organize space skillfully – and add heartwarming touches. Let's start in order!
Step #1: Action Plan
This includes not only repair actions in the room but also all processes that occur (and will occur) in the renovated bedroom. If you're used to resting only here, place the bed away from the window, buy curtains that block out sunlight, and provide a 'smart' electricity shutoff system. If you want to set up a mini office in the bedroom, make sure to have a laptop table, comfortable seating, and lighting. These are just two examples – it's important to plan the entire functionality of the space in advance and choose furniture, lighting, and placement of all items accordingly.

Step #2: Preparation for Redesign
The longest stage in the fastest renovation. You need to spend a day or two thoroughly cleaning the ceiling from old paint and walls from worn-out wallpaper.
If the old carpet or linoleum is damaged – remove it: replacing this covering is simple. But keep the old parquet, especially if it doesn't creak. In fact, old and artificially aged coverings are trendy now. If the parquet is solid but you don't like its appearance – use it as a flat and smooth base for new finishing.

Step #3: Working with the Ceiling
The ideal and fastest solution is to paint the ceiling. Choose water-dispersible interior paints – they 'breathe', don't dust, have excellent vapor permeability, and can be washed. In short, in the fight for clean air, a ceiling painted with such paint is the best helper. Clean air in the bedroom is simply necessary!
If you really want to create a clever design with built-in lights, install a fabric drop ceiling – this is fast but may require outside help (or even professional assistance). PVC drop ceilings don't allow air circulation, so they're not suitable for bedrooms. Gypsum board boxes are unlikely to suit someone who wants to finish quickly.

Important: For fairness, it should be noted that a multi-level ceiling in the bedroom is a good option, allowing for multiple lighting scenarios, color combinations, and creating relief that is always more attractive than the visual tension of a smooth surface. If time and ceiling height allow, install a suspended gypsum board box – this is eco-friendly, practical, and sometimes very poetic (if you plan a beautiful backlighting).
New Color Scheme: Try not to stop at the traditional snow-white. Use a milky tone (warm white), very light vanilla shade, pale pink or bleached sand for rooms with north-facing windows, for narrow dark rooms. Warm colors add brightness and visually expand the space.
Color of elephant ivory (very light gray), soft greenish tones, blurred burgundy shades – look elegant, set a tone for comfortable rest, but look best in large rooms with bright natural lighting.
Extravagant option – patterns, graphics and even stickers on the ceiling. Unusual ideas must be supported in the room's décor.

Step #4: Finishing the Walls
It's simple here – paint or wallpaper (the most eco-friendly choice). The same principle works as in ceiling decoration: textured and relief surfaces are preferred over smooth ones. The need (or desire) to look more carefully at the surrounding environment calms and relaxes – so think about relief painting, wallpaper with texture, or even installing 3D panels. Better to choose MDF or wood instead of plastic. Trendy alternative – laminate on walls.
New Color Scheme: Traditional bedroom colors are pastels. But you can also try dark shades – noble blue, deep green, pomegranate or coffee: they create depth and perspective and serve as a backdrop for beautiful furniture and accessories.
If you've settled on soft tones, use patterned coverings. Paper wallpaper with floral patterns is both eco-friendly and romantic; painting 'in stripes' will give the room an optical illusion of high ceilings and an elegant look.

Step #5: Installing Floor Covering
The floor should be seamless and flexible to lay it over the old one (removing the old covering can take a lot of time). For a bedroom, soft and warm materials are needed. The ideal option is cork flooring or carpet on natural jute base. The most budget-friendly (and one of the most convenient and fast) option – linoleum.
Important: With all options, don't forget about the skirting board (unless you're finishing with cork, in which case this option is optional).
If you keep the old parquet, fill in all holes (you don't have to match color and texture exactly), cover the floor with aqua-lac. Sanding and polishing are desirable but keep in mind that they will take a lot of time.

Step #6: Installing Lighting
LED strips near the bed, spotlights built into the ceiling and furniture, floor lamps, wall sconces, table lamps on bedside tables, pendant lights – there are many possibilities for various lighting scenarios in the bedroom. Usually all these methods are used successfully.
Important: Hide the wiring; try to plan comfortable control of lighting scenarios; leave outlets so you can experiment with portable lights and trendy today fairy lights.
Maximize the use of natural light in the room. Try to ensure that heavy bulky furniture is not near the window, and thin curtains let in light well. Together with lightweight textiles on windows, hang heavy drapes that provide complete darkness at night – or even during the day if needed.

Step #7: Arranging Furniture and Decor
This all depends on the functional content of the bedroom, which you've thought about in advance (see 'Step #1'). You may need a large mirror wardrobe, a computer desk, or even a modular system for a home cinema. But in the traditional set, the comfortable bed and bedside table (or two tables if the room is for married couples) remain. Vanity tables, dressers, and screens – classic contents for a bedroom: they allow for non-intrusive spatial zoning and provide excellent opportunities for interior decoration.
As for decor, the bedroom is traditionally the realm of soft textiles, throws and pillows, poufs, and rugs. Even if you prefer a more minimalist style, don't give up on fabrics: one single throw can make a neatly finished small room a real bedroom, a place of warmth and rest.

Other popular bedroom decoration techniques – using plants, indoor and cut (study the facts – not all flowers promote relaxation and sleep!), as well as photographs and paintings on the walls.
Perhaps you will find unique decorative elements that will adorn only your bedroom and become a continuation of your personal style. Statuettes mimicking ancient sculptures, Japanese lacquered boxes, or crystal chandeliers for windows or lights – all these methods can help quickly create the mood for the most colorful dreams.
