Classical Furniture in Modern Interior: 5 Ideas for Different Styles
The philosophy of combining various styles in interior design is a complex science that does not tolerate dilettantism. Our tips will help you avoid mistakes and create a truly unconventional interior
Eclecticism is quite popular in modern interiors. Love for classical furniture is characteristic of people with refined taste. However, not always strict traditional furniture blends well with modern trends. Yet, if you're eager to mix modernity with timeless classicism – today we'll tell you how to properly combine the incompatible.
1. Elegant Loft
The loft style is more than any other suited to coexist with elegant classicism. The roughness of brick masonry combined with refined vintage furniture is a success. Moreover, you can easily balance such an interior with modern decorative elements – exaggerated large floor lamps, vibrant shelves, and Andy Warhol-style prints. The furniture doesn't have to be new. For example, a sofa in old-English style with worn leather upholstery against a solid brick wall is pure luxury.

2. Scandinavian Minimalism
Scandinavian style is a favorite among lovers of order, cleanliness, and simplicity in interior design. Yet, despite its lightness and ease, it also serves as a perfect backdrop for classical furniture. In this case, antiques or vintage pieces work best. Strict classicism is out of place here. A restrained Nordic interior should not be overloaded. However, a single piece fits beautifully into the setting. Preferably, it would be a stylish coffee table with elegant legs, a dining table, a glass-fronted buffet, or a pair of chairs.

3. The Art Nouveau Era
Modern art nouveau is often quite bold. Clean, cold colors, minimalist furniture, and minimal decor – all these traits are more masculine. Feminine interiors are characterized by softness and drapery, which are more associated with classical style. It's perfectly acceptable to blend both in a bedroom. The most organic fit for classical furniture is in the “feminine” zones. This might be an elegant side table, a chair, or a vanity. Decorative elements can also reflect the decadent era – a powder box, a cotton ball jar, or a jewelry box. Don't be afraid to go overboard. In the worst case, you can cover your personal corner with a screen.

4. In the Style of Neoclassicism
A successful solution would be a pair of strict classical chairs paired with a utilitarian dining table. A supporting element could be a high white skirting board and a chandelier styled in classical fashion. However, as with any eclectic interior, balance is crucial. If you go overboard with cabinet hardware or kitchen fronts, the design will look absurd. Harmony is the basis of all creative experiments. If you have doubts, it means there are no doubts. Therefore, wallpapers with large patterns or Greek-style tiles must be avoided.

5. Modern History
If your favorite classical furniture doesn't fit into the interior, try masking it. Change the upholstery, repaint or polish it. This solution might seem radical, but it's not necessary to choose bold colors. Simply replacing the textiles with neutral ones with minimal decorative elements will make your favorite sofa a real gem in the living room and perfectly blend into modern design.
